I used to dread mowing those big lawns in the US. In Florida a pack of hogs come nightly to chew up these lawns and save people the trouble of mowing them. ;D www.justnews.com/news/22649189/detail.html QUOTE: Hogs Run Wild In S. Fla. Neighborhood Wild Pigs Elude Professional Trapper UPDATED: 5:17 am EST February 24, 2010 PLANTATION, Fla. -- Residents of a Plantation neighborhood have been waking up recently to find their front yards destroyed by pigs running wild. The strange markings first appeared two months ago. Video "It just looks like your grass is torn up, like if you take the sod and turn it upside down," said Angel Alvarez, who had to replace the sod in front of his workplace. Residents were perplexed by the damage until a homeowner snapped a blurry shot of the culprit, a feral hog that is wreaking havoc on neatly manicured lawns in Plantation Acres. "It's not unusual to see them in a pen, but running around and tearing up people's yards, it's a different thing," said Laura Bullard, who recently spotted several pigs crossing Old Hiatus Road. The animals lurk in the woods of a rural community during the day. At night, their snouts get busy, rooting in the soil for food. One homeowner's yard has been hit several times. He put up a wire fence to keep the hogs off of his lawn. Professional trapper Jon Gherardi, of Dead or Alive, was hired by homeowners to solve this pig problem, but he was unable outsmart the swine. They kept their snouts out of his traps. He believes there could be about 20 feral hogs roaming the neighborhood. "When we went into the woods, we spotted four piglets probably between the size of 60 and 80 pounds and there are signs of a boar that's probably pushing 200 to 300 pounds," Gherardi said. Residents are concerned the hogs are getting too comfortable in their community, turning their neighborhood into a pigsty. "I would have shot them and done dinner, supplied the whole street, but they say we can't do that," Bullard said. The state considers feral hogs nuisance animals and residents are allowed to trap or kill them on private property, but it's illegal to shoot a gun or bow and arrow within the city limits.
