Not too long ago Les Paul left us behind. Les was quite a guy, inventing multi-tracking and possibly the first solid bodied electric guitar.
Does anybody know what that guitar was called and what it was fashioned from - no googling!

Yes it was wood but it was something he took and fashioned into a guitar. it was an object prior to that, not a virgin piece, so to speak.

The familiar curvy bits are added here and surround the central part. The central part together with the neck was the original thing. Can you guess now? I'll give you a cuddle if you can

That appears to me to be a wrought iron fence. Surely it would have had to be wood - probably one of the soft woods like cedar or pine. Could be balsa I guess. Those are my best guesses and I can't pin it down more without looking it up.
