Hey Lin I gotta question, I get hundreds of requests for admission to my message board but they are obviously bull because they are outrageous email addresses. They names never make sence- just random letters thrown together. Do you get that here and how can I stop it? Is there any way to onlyallow real people to request membership?

They names never make sence- just random letters thrown together. Do you get that here and how can I stop it? Is there any way to onlyallow real people to request membership? Hi Kelly Yes I do occasionally - I've had about a dozen of them which is a lot less than the hundreds you're getting. Basicallly you just have to use your intuition if you don't know the people who're applying for membership. I was lucky because about 95% of the members here are people that I DO know from other boards so I knew I could trust them. The only suggestion I can make is to deny the ones that look dodgy and if any slip through the net ban them. You could also try changing your posting settings so that all posts have to be approved by you before they're sent out to the main board. Hope things are good with you, my friend. Love Lin

I didn't realise that board administrators knew members' e-mail addresses unless they are revealed in their profiles; I thought that was merely a matter for proboards admin!

Naw, when they apply for membership you see their email addys. I do just delete them all unless it looks like a real person but most are really wild emails. I get about 50 to 100 a day and I wonder why so many.

Well, on the advice of someone some time ago, I did set up a separate e-mail account for joining proboards, so it doesn't bother me; I can just delete the whole thing if I start getting unpleasant messages. But I have been on boards where the administrator has not been a nice person at all, and I would not have been happy with the idea that they had my private e-mail.

Skylark, so have I. When I belonged to two boards where Anja Nieser was involved (one she ran - now mercifully dead) and one where she was an admin, she regularly abused her position to spam members, spam other boards and post hate-filled messages.
On this board I am the ONLY staff member who has access to member's e-mails and I hope you know me well enough by now to realise that I'm both discreet and trustworthy.

Of course! If you'd been sending me abusive e-mails I would have clocked out some time ago!
