Most people can look better than they are if they put the effort into it, but it is hard to fake intelligence for long.
I'd prefer to look ugly than stupid.

Well I'll give you this much Gibby. You and Anna keep getting better looking all the time.
Those avatars really are you aren't they. Sorry, I didn't mean to doubt.

I suppose you talking about a hypothethical reincarnation BA! The die have been cast for this life and I guess I didn't fare badly at all.
Many guys feel uneasy around girls, who are more intelligent than they are. It's easy to remain a bachelorette, if you have an IQ over 150, especially if you don't have good looks! I'd like to have good looking children too. A family of hook nosed, big eared intellectuals seems to get marginalized.
Before I vote I'd have to have clear picture. I'm leaning towards looks because too much intellect seems to lead to depression or quirkiness in my opinion. Intelligence ( Intellect ) is not wisdom! Some things are so stupid that only very intelligent people are capable of believing in them. Intelligence can kill common sense!
Being a beautiful dumb bunny certainly isn't appealing either.

Anna, it may be true that some men are afraid of very intelligent women, but I've also heard of beautiful women complaining that they never get asked out!
I think that wisdom is one aspect of intelligence. What people describe as the "common sense" approach often means nothing more than "I'll do this because it makes sense to me and I don't understand the reasoning behind doing anything else".
So when I voted for intelligence over looks I meant the completew package. Wisdom, super-powered reasoning, creative abilities... the money I earn will make up for lack of looks.

I don't know so much; I know it sounds cheeky of me but I;d say on the whole I was probably more intelligent than my hubby who;s great at practical skills but not particularly verbal or quick on the uptake somjetimes. I suppose you could say that's why he married me; didn't realise all my faults~! But joking apart I think we all know that looks matter - at least at the beginning - but I think that a man who;s secure about himself and has genuine self-confidence (not the false arrogance) won;t worry if his girl is maybe a bit cleverer than him. And on the whole I think blokes usually are brighter than us so I guess I've just been lucky!

I define intelligence as something seperate from wisdom! Take suicide for example! It's very high relatively speaking among people with a high IQ! A simplistic aborgine, who scores poorly in IQ tests has enough wisdom to prevent him from committing the folly of suicide!

The classic cult film "The Forbidden Planet" presents an interesting perspective of what could happen when the human brain is activated beyond it's normal limitations and a tremendous intelligence is set free with all it's unknown negative powers as well! In the film Dr. Morbius through extraterrestial technology obtains this extremely high intelligence, but fails to see the consequences.

The Suicide Project study was speciallly interesting: picking up on this:
"Yet there is some support for Voracek’s suicide/smartness correlation. Dr Keith Ashcroft, a forensic psychologist based in Manchester, notes that “suicide is indeed more common among the professional classes: scientists like vets and dentists have notoriously high suicide rates”. In fact, Ashcroft has a telling theory of his own. He thinks that “emotional intelligence” is relevant tothe IQ/suicide question. Ashcroft wonders whether people with very high IQs might tend to have lower emotional intelligence — ie, inferior “people skills”. After all, everyone is aware of the cliché of the lonely genius, unable to fit in with society, who is eventually driven to suicide by his isolation."
Emotional intelligence (I'd call it emotional stability, or maybe even confidence) is probably the key to happiness really - much more important than either beauty or IQ. But I don't think that they are mutually exclusive.
