I used to enjoy sad books and movies but they now leave me feeling depressed for weeks. A lot of older people seem to feel the same; we demand our happy endings.
If it carries on like this I'll have to confine myself to Mills and Boon romances and Disney. Even then, I never saw Bambi; mum thought the scene where his mother died too sad.

England put out an advert showing what it's like to get in a fatal car accident, from inside the car. Their purpose was to discourage texting while driving, but their result - for me- was I couldn't shake the horrible feeling it gave me. It stayed with me 24/7 for months, and was actually a couple years before it was gone. (Though it still affects me. I occasionally have a daymare when in a car). I really felt grim about death, and so life, from it. I should have sued, and if i lived there I might have. It was very bad for me. It was that bad. And it was a shocking thing that some people in charge had had the awfulness of character to think it ok - or even good - to produce and air such a thing. I'm a seasoned adult and it affected me that way...I can't even imagine what it might have done to some young kids who they pointed it at. But yea, I know what you mean about not wanting to watch sad things. Because whatever I witness sticks with me and makes a home on my whole being and psyche. And I've always been like that. I can write music. One theory is that that means I am way more sensitive than most people experience, full bodily so. (But i don't know. It isn't like i could go take a poll of how others experienced that damn thing. Maybe it wasn't just me...) This is why back when gory horror movies were popular, I never watched any. It doesnt seem to matter if a depiction isnt "real", so long as it's acted well, seems to be enough.. It's depictions of trauma, isnt it, so it traumatizes. And i dont know why some people like that, as if it's some sort of thrill ride. I've never understood
