Had thought to start this thread back sometime ago, then forgot about it. For some reason, I remembered it tonight. 1) What is erotica? How does it differ from plain ol' dirty books? 2) Do you read it? 3) What are your favorites? Old school - Forever Amber, Lady Chatterley, etc. ? Modern classics like The White Hotel - Laurell K. Hamilton's 'fun with Anita and Jean Claude' series? or . . . other (please explain).

I've read all the above and a few others - that series about plantation life in the old south, can't remember the name off the top of my head. Erotica - book/lit wise is not hard core porn, but I think some of the art collections are. That's just IMO. We have the Laurell K. Hamilton series, but that's kind of erotica-lite. The meta-creature factor is the hook in that one more than the sex.

Of course, there's the Karma Sutra, but it IS rather cliche, eh?

For some reason i virtually never read erotic stuff in German or English. It has to be a language that i haven't learned well enough. Maybe my main motivation is to learn the language and erotic language lessons seem more amusing than the dull texts that language courses offer.
I've read Nancy Friday's books on male and female erotic fantasies in French and i wouldn't mind reading them in Spanish or Russian too. The same goes for films too. I'm not really centered on erotic stuff for learning languages either and have quite a broad spectrum of other topics for that, but i just hate the dull standard texts that are used to teach languages.
