But I wasn't excited at all. I saw that he was 2 sets down and just knew he wasn't going to be beaten like that. Sometimes people are too good to get excited about. ;D Now, Andy Murray on the other hand.... much more risk. I couldn't believe his comeback (even though he should never have been that far behind in the first place.) I can't see anyone beating Federer at the moment, though; I mean that was Nadal's job!! Maybe I am just being lazy. To tell the awful truth, I still miss my champ Bjorn Borg. Look! White tennis balls! The good old days...

I was at work and could only watch the scoreboard.......painful...... What do you think of Sharapova? I know people hate her grunting......but so many of them do it, it doesn't even phase me anymore. I like her. She has a ton of money and could make a lot more modeling. She had shoulder surgery.....and here she is back winning majors....and still looks hungry. She is always gracious to the other players whether she wins or loses. I have nothing against her but I don't particularly get behind her either. I don't know why. It could be the grunting. She was playing the other day and it seemed to be loud and long even for her. In fact, no, you're right! She has great integrity and is a proper sportswoman. She deserves respect for that. I am being a bit miserly with my affections. I am going to start backing her.

I'm following today's action on the guardian's live update page: www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2012/jul/02/wimbledon-2012-last-16-live?INTCMP=ILCNETTXT3487Quote: 11.59am: The worst breed of cloud is the passive-aggressive cloud; the sluggish white whale that rolls over Wimbledon and then stays put, squeezing out the occasional fat rain-drop that splats onto the courts and leaves the official's gnawing anxiously at their knuckles. Is this rain or just a rain-drop? So far the courts remain uncovered and the players are knocking up. But one senses that we are all on borrowed time here.I like a bit of sports commentary poetry. ;D (But my favourite commentator is McEnroe. He is hilarious.)
Update from the Guardian: 1.10pm: Game and first set to Francesca Schiavone. She takes it, edgily, six games to four as Kvitova sends a low forehand clean into the net.
In other news @tennishead tweets:
There are five men aged 30 or over in the round of 16 @wimbledon. Last time this happened at a Grand Slam was @rolandgarros in 1983...
It seems that this has become the pattern in men's tennis over the past few years. Gone are the days when raw-boned adolescents like Boris Becker, Mats Wilander or Michael Chang could blast their way to grand slam victories, or when a player was all but washed up by their late-20s. Tennis, like the western world at large, is now struggling to come to terms with an ageing population and grey power rules at this year's Wimbledon.
Coming up now on Centre Court: a linger-longer special compered by 30-year-old Roger Federer and 31-year-old Xavier Malisse. They remember when all this were fields and an honest bloke could buy a punnet of strawberries, take a hansom cab home and still get change from a shilling. ;D Borg retired at 25.

Wow....Federer dropped the first two sets and then came back and won.......going to be a funky Wimbledon!!! Think you're right! 1.21pm: Out on Centre, the punters settle down to follow the dialogue between venerable Roger Federer and antique Xavier Malisse, the two wise old white-beards of SW19. These two have stories they want to tell and tricks they want to show you. If only they didn't keep interrupting each other. ..... 1.28pm: Once again, Xavier Malisse grinds his way to break-point, dragging a curiously drowsy-looking Roger Federer to and fro along the baseline. Yet again, Federer rouses himself just long enough to ease himself out of danger. .... 1.38pm: What goes on down on Centre Court? Roger Federer has just been led away by an official. He leaves with his customary unhurried grace, so chances are the situation not too serious (probably just parked his car in the wrong space or something). Fingers crossed he'll be back to resume his conversation with Malisse before too long. Next door on One, top-seeded Maria Sharapova tumbles a break behind to the bounding Sabine Lisicki. The German, ranked 15, leads 4-2 in the first. 1.47pm: Our thanks to Roger Federer for strolling back on Centre to receive serve in his fourth-round contest. The word is that the third-seed went off in search of painkillers, though nobody seems to know just where he's hurting. Undeniably he looks a little below-par out there today, although he still has his nose in front, leading Malisse 5-4 in the first. 1.53pm: It's code amber on Centre Court as peerless Roger Federer shanks his shots to slip 15-40 down. He's footwork is sluggish and his shots are casual. He looks as though he's warming up on the practice court, not bidding for 10th straight Wimbledon quarter-final. Something is clearly wrong.
And Serena Williams is neck and neck, battling a battle she may be about to lose! I am heading to that TV in about an hour.

And tomorrow - will Andy Murray beat Roger Federer to become the first Brit to win Wimbledon since Fred Perry way back in the 1930s?
Come on, Andy!

Wimbledon 2012: Britain awaits Andy Murray v Roger Federer Britain is expected to come to a virtual standstill later when Andy Murray bids to become the first home winner of the men's singles title at Wimbledon since Fred Perry in 1936. The 25-year-old Murray, seeking his first Grand Slam title, faces six-time champion Roger Federer in the final. A win would deliver Federer a record-equalling seventh Wimbledon crown. The television audience is expected to top 20m while Centre Court tickets are exchanging hands for upwards of £4,000. read more...

Lots at stake here. Murray can become the face of British tennis. Federer can regain the number one ranking and a remarkable 8th title. I think Roger is the better player but Andy will have that adrenaline rush.

Looks like Murray is going to be Scottish.......England only seem to claim him when he's winning. Darn it....breaks my heart. I really respect Federer as a player....but he has never been a favorite of mine. I hear how nice he is all the time....but I watched an interview with him (ages ago)....and he was just really arrogant......guess you have to be to some extent....just really rubbed me the wrong way.

Roger had to beat both Djokovic and Murray to win. They were both on their game, and he played great to win. One of the greatest players of all time. He'll be 31 soon. How many of the tennis greats were able to win majors in their thirties?
