Nadal dominated on dry clay as he always does. Novak adjusted a lot better to wet clay.
Rain forecast for monday too. Why doesn't this stadium have a roof like Wimbledon?
Nadal would win in dry conditions but not if wet.

Rain really messed up this final. They need a new stadium with a roof.
It looked to me like Nadal was likely to lose in the rain yesterday. A wet heavy ball makes it difficult to get the spin on his forehand which is such a big part of Rafa's game. He was fortunate that they stopped the match overnight.
We'll probably see the same two finalists again at Wimbeldon as we did last year. Novak will likely win that one. These are definitely the two best players in the world. Must be difficult for Roger Federer to accept. I think deterioration of skills due to age happens much younger in tennis than other sports.

The game is just so tough on the body. How old is Sharapova and she's already had a major shoulder surgery?
Rafa and the type of game he plays is certainly tearing up his knees! The torque he puts on the ball when hitting is fairly staggering too.......
Andy Roddick seems to have lost his serve and that really was his entire game.......

Found this info:
Nadal in particular generates enormous topspin — an average of 3200 rpm, and as high as 4000.

You know, I'd have looked to see if there was tennis on today, but i don't have cable (It's ok, it's by choice! I'm weird. I haven't watched commercial television (or the news) for 7 years now. I can't stand the depressing "news" OR the ads, so I just tuned out... I watch dvd's instead. Old sit-coms, sci-fi, chic flicks and movies i collected. Anyway, I thought of ya, but I have no means any more. Anything good happen this week?

WIMBLEDON, England - Racket bag slung over her shoulder, resignation written across her face, Venus Williams weaved through fans milling about on the sidewalks that players must traverse to get from Court 2 to the Wimbledon locker rooms. The 32-year-old Williams had just absorbed a lopsided first-round loss at the Grand Slam tournament she once ruled, a poor performance that raised questions about how much longer she will keep playing tennis while dealing with an energy-sapping illness. She trudged by as her hitting partner, David Witt, was saying: "It's tough to watch sometimes. I think everybody sees it. I don't know what else to say." Looking lethargic, and rarely showing off the power-based game that carried her to five Wimbledon titles and seven majors overall, Williams departed meekly Monday with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat against 79th-ranked Elena Vesnina of Russia. Only once before — as a teenager making her Wimbledon debut in 1997 — had Williams exited so early at the All England Club. She hadn't lost in the first round at any Grand Slam tournament in 6½ years. Still, Williams said she'll be at the London Olympics next month and is "planning" to be back at Wimbledon next year. "I feel like I'm a great player," Williams said, sounding a tad like someone trying to convince herself. She repeated that affirmation as she continued: "I am a great player. Unfortunately, I had to deal with circumstances that people don't normally have to deal with in this sport. But I can't be discouraged by that. ... There's no way I'm just going to sit down and give up just because I have a hard time the first five or six freakin' tournaments back." Later, as part of a slightly testy and awkward exchange with reporters, Williams said: "I'm tough, let me tell you. Tough as nails." Her loss, in her first match since a second-round ouster at the French Open, was part of an odd Day 1, even if the true tournament favorite in action won easily: Maria Sharapova. Among those sent home were No. 18 Jelena Jankovic, who was rather easily beaten 6-2, 6-4 by Kim Clijsters, a four-time major champion who has been beset by injuries in her last season on tour and, like Williams, is unseeded. nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/47946294/ns/sports-tennis/

She's proven herself and changed women's tennis. I really wish she would retire and just relax and take care of herself.

Well at 32, I can't blame her for feeling like she's not done yet, but.. I suffer from fatigue myself. It's real. It can't just be attituded away. ...and it means I can't do what I used to be able to do.
I hope she makes her exit gracefully, so she can feel good about it. They oughta' do something nice for her...

In tennis 32 is almost ancient (how sad is that).....she just doesn't have anything to prove anymore and like you said....it would be wonderful for her to go out gracefully.......I do not care for her sister but I have always liked Venus.

I was at work and could only watch the scoreboard.......painful......
What do you think of Sharapova? I know people hate her grunting......but so many of them do it, it doesn't even phase me anymore. I like her. She has a ton of money and could make a lot more modeling. She had shoulder surgery.....and here she is back winning majors....and still looks hungry.
She is always gracious to the other players whether she wins or loses.
