As a child the Christmas Season was special, I always looked forward to it. Being an adult I still look forward to it but with dread.
What are your feelings about Christmas?

There is nothing wrong with the season itself, but the amount of presents that one has to buy for extended family and personal friends.

Some years ago we aske our extended family members not to buy any present for us because we're not going to buy any for you. This worked like magic. Just a few years ago we stopped putting up a Christmas try and decorations. Now our Christmas is soley lfor the grandchildren and young nephews. They love getting presents. That's about the extent of it.

I like Christmas and the Christmas spirit, but I don't like the work that goes with it!

I like Christmas and the Christmas spirit, but I don't like the work that goes with it! I always cook the Christmas dinner in our home (and no, that is not a one-off; I regularly cook and we share the cooking duties.) I quite enjoy cooking for the family at Christmas. However the commercialisation of the festival means that people expect outrageously expensive presents rather than being content with ones given from the heart. And of course to my wife and children there is also the religious aspect of the festival. What I dislike most about Christmas (other than the undue commercialisation) is the long hiatus when from Christmas Eve to the day after New Year's Day nearly everything shuts down!

That's about the extent of it. A sensible solution has to be found. My daughter worked it out, with all extended family members bringing some food and a present for one person only. This is all arranged beforehand. Taking place at a different home each year. Every person ends up with a present instead of multiple presents. Problem solved.

I dislike all holidays exactly for that reason. No doubt workers look forward to every holiday and possibly wish that there were more.

Looking forward to it, with dread as the thread author expressed! Great way to sum it up.

Not really; it's going to be much more subdued than usual.
