I've never had jury duty, not that I wanted to but I'm hearing impaired. I can't hear it thunder, that's why I'm on the internet a lot.
Have you ever pulled jury duty and did you like it? Do you feel it's you duty as a citizen to serve?

Do you feel it's you duty as a citizen to service? I was called once and I was quzzed by someone who asked me what I felt about the case. I said that I felt sorry for the young person who was on trial, so my services were dispensed with. I was never called again.

Good for you. I'm hearing impaired so I'm a reject. Here for jury duty we're payed 12.50 a day. By the time we put gas in our car, pay for parking and buy lunch we've lot money. They can't figure out why people don't want to serve.

How did you manage?

Well, my hearing is so poor even with very costly hearing aids I don't hear well enough to carry on a conversation most of the time.
I Can't hear sounds from 3,000hz to 5,000 hz. That's a child's voice and most women also.
It's like watching movies on tv I miss so much of it it's not worth it. What I don't hear I have to guess at...no fun.
For Christmas last year my family got me a amp to fit on my TV in my bedroom. It has a speaker and a head set. I can hear that very well.

I served on a jury once. The guy was before the court for theft but it was obvious even to a 5-year old child that the police had 'improved' on the evidence against him and tried to fit him up for some unsolved crimes that he HADN'T done.
The result was that we had to find him not guilty even though he'd obviously stolen SOME of the things he was on trial for.

I've received about a dozen jury notices through the years, but only had to actually report once. I was selected to be on the jury for a case that had to do with the mental state of a guy who'd held up a convenience store. It seemed like it'd be interesting, but I never got to find out. The attorneys from both sides asked each of the prospective jurors a few questions, and I guess at least one of my answers didn't sit well with one of them. For reasons I'll never know, I was excused (as I recall) by the defense attorney. I live in California, and here anyone 70 and over (I'm 75 now) is exempt from serving on a jury. I'm not sure that's a good thing, but I guess I understand. I do feel like jury duty is our civic duty, and I have no empathy whatsoever for anyone who whines about the cost of parking, etc.
