This puts things into perspective...................
The next time you hear a politician use the Word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money .
A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, But one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its releases.
A A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive .
C A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age .
D A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.
While this thought is still fresh in our brain...
let's take a look at New Orleans ...
It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division .
Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D) was asking Congress for 250 BILLION DOLLARS To rebuild New Orleans. Interesting number...
What does it mean?
A Well .. If you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman and child) You each get $516,528
B Or ... If you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans, your home gets $1,329,787.
C Or.. If you are a family of four...
Your family gets $2,066,012.
Washington , D.C.
HELLO!
Are all your calculators broken??
Building Permit Tax Cigarette Tax, Federal and state Income Tax Federal Unemployment Tax Fishing License Tax Gasoline Tax Inheritance Tax IRS Interest Charges (tax on top of tax) IRS Penalties (tax on top of tax) Liquor Tax Luxury Tax Marriage License Tax Medicare Tax Property Tax Road Tolls Usage Tax Sales Taxes State Unemployment Tax Telephone Federal Excise Tax Telephone Federal Universal Service Fee Tax Telephone taxes (of which there are many) Utility Tax Vehicle License Registration Tax Vehicle Sales Tax Watercraft Registration Tax Workers Compensation Tax Tax on new tires. and many, many, many more.
Those are direct taxes.
Don’t forget about indirect taxes. When a corporation or service provider pays taxes they pass those costs along to consumers by building them into the prices we pay for their products and services.
For instance, when a trucker pays gas tax on diesel fuel those costs trickle down to you by first being built into prices the trucking company charges his corporate customer. Those costs are then passed along to you in the form of higher prices. So if gasoline and diesel prices go up, consumers not only pay more for fuel, they also pay more for groceries, furniture, and everything else that has been delivered by trucks, trains, or planes.
Renters may not have to pay property taxes but you can be sure their landlords pass along those costs in the form of higher rents.
Corporate income taxes are a huge expense for companies. For example, one reason iPhones are so expensive is that Apple pays billions in taxes to federal, state, and local governments along with all sorts of international taxing authorities.
In summary, we’re being taxed every time we turn around.
Just think, we Americans left British Rule to avoid so many taxes
Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago..
And America was arguably the most prosperous in the world.
We had zero national debt.
We had the largest middle class in the world.
And Mom stayed home to raise the kids.
What happened? ‘Politicians!
Want to take a ride way up further into the tax stratosphere? If you’re an American you can do that by electing the Democrats. For you Brits it is the Labor party. And for the EU, well I’m sorry for you but it is the EU.

We have to face the fact that there will always be taxes. How else can the Government raise the money to fix everything that needs to be fixed. I don't quibble, I just go with the flow and pay.

Here in Australia, the Liberals were ousted from Government by the Labour Party, and guess what? They were so busy doling money out to those in line with their hands out, that they got the country into debt, to the tune of billions of dollars. Now that the Liberals have been reelected they can only pay the interest on the debt, so it is an ongoing debt. When the Liberal Party was in the first time, we were free of debt. Labour is hopeless at managing the economy.
