I was unable to use the link, but I thought that gay people were now accepted in this day and age. My sympathies are for the boy's family. It is dreadful what gay people have had to put up with over the years.

There may be a bit more to the story than meets the eye, for example how did they know he was gay?
I mean I don't think they knew him beforehand so how would they know, you can't normally tell is someone on the tube is gay or not.
Bit more here.
So there may be a bit more too it than that maybe they had been making a bit of nuisance of themselves or something lilke that?
I mean if you are keeping yourself to yourself you are generally OK but if you are being loud and fooling around perhaps it might annoy some people?

Kronks, you must live in a very sheltered environment if you seriously believe that people don't get attacked without ANY kind of 'provocation.'
It happens all the time to all kinds of people.
For what it's worth when we had not long moved to Shropshire (we lived there for a couple of years) my husband met an old friend who he hadn't seen for a year and as they said goodbye they hugged each other.
Unfortunately they did it outside the pub where they'd been drinking and two local morons decided to start calling them poufters and then began to attack them.
Fortunately Mike and his friend were well able to lay the two hooligans out sparko but that's not the point!
It was a totally unprovoked attack.
Most hate crime attacks ARE.

Still doesn't mean they are gay, I would suggest there is more to the story than is being revealing, I like to hear an independent eye witnesses account of what went on. I think maybe he was flaunting his sexuality on the tube inappropriately and that caused some upset perhaps, I mean had he being quietly seated on the tube minding his own business nobody would have a clue of his sexuality. I expect however he was being rather loud and obnoxious annoying other passengers perhaps?

I don't see it that way Kronks, genuine gays look and act as a gay, they could be sitting quietly minding their own business and those people who hate gays will accost them at the drop of a hat. Here in Australia, anyone that looked like a gay were being beaten up. Some were murdered.

Here in Australia, anyone that looked like a gay were being beaten up. Some were murdered. There are thousands of gay people in London and indeed in Australia, most of them do not get beaten up. Well a few do get beaten up but then a lot of straight people get beaten up to. Straight person behaving like an arsehole on the tube and gets beaten up, there is no story there. Gay person behaving like an arsehole on the tube and gets beaten up, well the story is man gets beaten up for being gay! I can't find any evidence that gay people are more likely to be beaten up than anyone else. I found this though. However in the USA there are 15,872 homicides annually, if just 28 of them were gay they are doing far better than straight people!! In fact they seem to be doing remarkably well! If anything those numbers are shockingly low!

You're right in the overall % of killings compared to the small % of homosexuals, so I guess it doesn't matter if a person is Gay or not.?

Because they were shouting at him for being gay whether he as or not is neither here nor there the fact is they assumed he was gay and that’s why they beat him up

Depends on how they are behaving. I expect maybe they were being loud obnoxious and chucking glitter all the place and being a PITA to other people on the train. But of course they won't say that to the police. We have not heard much about the case since, this guy was some sort of LGBT activist. Had they been quietly minding their own business I expect nothing would have happened I expect he is "bigging up" the gay bit, gay can also mean happy and in high spirits, speaking of spirits I bet he was drunk too! I found a bit more. www.pinknews.co.uk/2017/12/06/two-16-year-olds-arrested-after-attack-on-gay-teen-who-was-forced-to-apologise-for-being-gay/Note the original story omits the bit in bold ie that they gave him back the phone and also that a "fight ensued" I would suggest that bit is the gay man friends attacking them. Anyhow as they were on the way to a party I expect they were already drunk. I mean he is part of some LGBT group the type that tend to be professional complainers and also the type who like to parade their sexuality in public. As an aside I expect the woman who attack them was a lesbian ie more butch than the boys perhaps? Anyhow not sure what has happened the alledged attackers were release on bail. However it seems the incident was over when one of his friends attacked his "attackers" What we have is a one-sided account though. I'd like to hear the other side.

The truth is I think it is more six of one and half a dozen of the other, his friend assaulted them it seems, and indeed they may have been the ones to blame for it all, as I said we have heard one side of the story

I expect it is more the case that the lesbians go around beating up people as indeed appears to be the case in this story! But as I say I expect it is more they case they were beaten up for being pain in the a** than being gay. (no pun intended).

Because they were shouting at him for being gay whether he as or not is neither here nor there the fact is they assumed he was gay and that’s why they beat him up I said earlier that true gays take on the mannerisms of the gender that they think they are. It's certainly a shame that they are beaten up for just being who they are. How cruel some people are.!!! Thanks for the clarification.
