I do take Brewer's Yeast supplements for all the forms of Vitamin B and it's purely natural. Studies have supported the suspicion that synthethic industrial crystalline vitamin B is not capable of binding ( eliminating ) toxins in the body known as "free radicals" in the body.worldobserveronline.com/2013/12/17/vitamin-supplements-waste-money-say-scientists/?utm_source=taboola&utm_medium=referralVitamin supplements are waste of money, say scientistsResearch suggests diet supplements taken by one in three Britons have no clear health benefits and might even be harmful. Vitamin supplements almost never have health benefits, are a waste of money and could even be harmful, a group of scientists said in a damning indictment of the industry. Despite one in three Britons taking vitamins or mineral pills, evidence from studies of almost 500,000 people suggested that “supplementing the diet of well-nourished adults … has no clear benefit and might even be harmful.” The conclusions were drawn by British and US academics at the University of Warwick and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, and published in the Annals of Internal Medicine. The scientists also suggested that companies selling supplements were fuelling false health anxieties to offer unnecessary cures, according to the Times. Three research papers helped inform their opinion, one of which, analysing 24 previous trials involving 450,000 people, found no beneficial effect on mortality from taking vitamins. Another examined 6,000 elderly men and found no improvement on cognitive decline after 12 years of taking supplements, while a third saw no advantage of supplements among 1,700 men and women with heart problems over an average study of five years. The experts said most supplements should be avoided as their use is not justified. They wrote: “These vitamins should not be used for chronic disease prevention. Enough is enough.” They said that an average western diet was sufficient to provide the vitamins the body needs. Edgar Miller, of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, said: “There are some that advocate we have many nutritional deficiencies in our diet. The truth is though we are in general overfed, our diet is completely adequate.” He added: “These companies are marketing products to us based on perceptions of deficiencies. They make us think our diet is unhealthy, and that they can help us make up for these deficiencies and stop chronic illnesses. The group that needs these is very small. It’s not the general population.” Miller continued: “There’s something for everything: preventing joint pains, stopping heart disease. If you’re going to spend your money on something every month, is this really the best option? The NHS advised recently that other than women hoping to conceive taking folic acid and the elderly and children under five benefiting from vitamin D, supplementary vitamins would be surplus to that already gained through diet, the Times said. The Health Food Manufacturers’ Association said vitamin supplements provided people with “nutritional insurance”. kronks interestedbob mikemarshall Big Lin Scottish Lassie @menantol

Hardly a surprise, I expect they make no difference for the vast majority of people.

Just took one. Will see if I feel any better tomorrow!! I have taken the odd one form time to time but not notice anything really. I suppose if you have a deficiency on a vitamin it might help, but I am not sure how effective tablet form vitamins are. Some of them such as vitamin C do not last a long time? So they would 'expire'? Might be wrong about that though.

Even we ourselves!!! But getting back to food and vitamins. Vtamins are more potent when they are fresh. The minute you open a bottle of vitamin pills and let the air in, very slowly their efficiency starts to deteriorate. The same applies to the vitamins in fresh food.

I was finding it painful to walk so I started taking apple cider and around three weeks, I suddenly became aware that I was walking easier and without pain, perhaps it was cider vinegar, is there a difference? Now I just drink green tea which seems to do the trick.

Regarding Vitamin C. If you eat half an orange a day, then you have all the natural vitamin C you need for that day.
I don't take vitamins on a usual basis. They seem to make no difference for me.

The problem with that is that if you don't eat the other half its wasted and once light, air hit it, it starts to lose its vitamin C. I haven't had a cold in at least 10 years. The Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc tablets have helped prevent leg cramps immensely! I'm so thankful for them!

Here is a clip to a show on this subject I saw recently. The Curious Case of Vitamins and Me: Myers Cocktail – The Nature of Things It was an interesting show. The conclusion they came to in the end was that (apart from Vit D) we don't really need all the extra vitamins. Here in Canada (and especially if you are of a darker skin) many are lacking in the Vitamin D. The vitamin we can get from the sun. IF YOU'D LIKE TO SEE MORE OF THE DOCUMENTARY - link

I often though I got a cold after eating oranges or fresh fruit, I figures maybe I was picking up germs from all the people who handled the fruit perhaps?
Sweet potatoes have more vitamin C than an orange. Ordinary potatoes are high in vitamin C
So a I guess the average meal with potatoes in it gives you all the vitamin C you need.

That's interesting Kronks, I didn't know that before. But like everything else the vitamin content diminishes as it ages after having been picked. There are so many places that people frequent and are touching that could be responible for your cold, it is just impossible to be sure, except when you are in close contact with someone who does have a cold and is sneezing without a handkerchief.

Yea it is just funny that I don't tend to eat a lot of fresh fruit but I notice a couple of times I got a cold after buying some, might just be coincidence though. Maybe the germs need vitamin C too!

Its located in the skin. But there are a lot of carbs which convert to sugar in a potato.

That's amazing, 60 years and not even a cold, Scottish lassie. And I thought I was doing good at 3 years and no cold.
Regarding the loading of the clip and the cost, I guess it all depends on the kind of internet service you have. I have heard that videos do cost a bit if you are on limited internet?
blc, true, have to check on the sugar content of anything before eating it, but for those who are not diabetic I imagine it wouldn't be a problem to eat an orange in one go. At least it is natural sugar.

It can be put in a small container with a lid and put in the fridge and eaten the next day.

It is not that vitamin supplements are completely waste of money. Many people are taking it for their health ailments. Doctors also recommend supplements like magnesium supplements, iron supplements, and supplements which body gets deficient of.

Totally agree, Toetapping. The key is to have a healthy diet in which case you should get all the necessary vitamins naturally.

A typical example about 12 months ago I went off fish oil tablets and 12 months later feel absolutely no different. A waste of money.
