I hope people will understand that neither Lin nor I have been online today.
Last night our cat became very ill and in the morning we had to take him to the vets.
He died at 1.50pm this afternoon.
Lin is devastated and in a state of shock.
Both of us - even I - have been crying bucketloads of tears today.
He was the most loving and joyful cat I have ever known.
Lin is convinced that he was a gift from God.
We are both very distressed as are our children.
I thank you all for your understanding.

Mike and Lin, I am so sorry to hear about your loss.As a "cat person" who has been through the sadness you are experiencing several times I feel for you. It isn't much consolation at the moment....but in the future you will have so many happy memories to counteract your present grief. My thoughts are with you both.

Thank you, Sinistral.
I am very touched by your kindness and I will pass on your condolences to Lin.
She is taking it very badly indeed to be honest.

I am SO sorry about your cat; losing a pet is a special grief and one we have all experienced.
My father in law once said: "if you can't afford to lose love, then never give it away" as he knew love causes pain sometimes but it was well worth the dance.
Hugs to all of the Marshall's in their loss and take your time getting back to the board; we will be just fine until you feel ready to deal with us again.

Thank you, Chris.
I really appreciate your kindness.
Lin has gone to pieces a bit today to be honest.
We had another cat who died 5 years ago and when she went it was sad but somehow there was something very special about Sandy.
He was more full of love than many people I've known and he brought us nothing but joy.
Our house is empty without him here somehow.

I hope this is appropriate......
Death is not the end Death can never be the end.
Death is the road. Life is the traveller. The Soul is the Guide
Our mind thinks of death. Our heart thinks of life Our soul thinks of Immortality.

They are little 'people' much more individual than dogs. It's sad to lose but in the end, though it hurts, the sadness is you own loss, not theirs. Your cat is either not or on its way to a 'better' life. Either way the tears are yours, the laughter the cat's. It's like the hurt of watching somebody you adore marry the one they prefer; sadness for yourself, happiness for them.

Oh Mike, I'm very sorry. Give my love to Lin. We went through that experience a year ago this past February - and yes, we both moarned and cried many tears. Time will help heal, but you'll hurt for quite a while. Sending you warm thoughts and best wishes, Beth

Yes, I've been through this too and I sympathise. Comfort yourself in the knowledge that you provided your beloved cat with a safe and happy home - there are many who don't have that.

Thanks, everyone.
It's terrible - every time I look around I see constant reminders of his presence and yet he's gone now.
I think God's taken him because he truly WAS an angel.

Sorry to hear this. Losing a cat or a dog is losing a loved one in the truest sense.

Lin and Mike, I'm sorry to hear about your little cat. We all know how you feel. It takes time. It was ages before I stopped looking for our cat's face peering through the glass in our front door. (We'd let her out the back door but she always came in through the front!).

Pets simply become part of the family IMO. It's always deeply upsetting when they die. They all have their own unique personalities and traits as well, they aren't just "dumb animals". AH
