Toby, if you give us statistics like that - please provide a link" A Google search seems to confirm part of Toby's statement. I don't know about the 30% criminal record though. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2001782/Romanian-migrants-send-home-500-000-day-UK.htmlQUOTE:An estimated two million Romanians work abroad, including 60,000 thought to live in the UK. Most live in North London and the South East of England. A further 25,000 each year are given work permits to enter Britain.

I've found that immigration (like many other topics) seems to polarize too many people into dogmatic positions.
As someone who belongs to some pretty extreme left and right wing boards (as well as many more that are broader in their attitudes) I've found the total incomprehension of people on either extreme side about even being able to understand why people could possibly think differently amazing.
And too many people put you into boxes. I've been told that because I support the death penalty, I'm pro-life on abortion and oppose the whole welfare culture I must be right wing. On the other hand I've also been told that because I oppose globalization, support the National Health Service, support prisoner's rights and don't agree with the whole attack on human rights I must be left wing.
On the immigration issue I support (ideally) a total ban.
On the question of free speech I prefer to be liberal rather than authoritarianism.
And I'm totally against the whole idea of imprisoning people for what they BELIEVE rather than what they DO.

I am surprised we are giving our work permits to people with criminal records - or does Toby mean they committed the crimes after coming here? Either way, I'd like to know where he got his facts.

Toby comments.:- Those of you who keep up with what's going on will remember that it was Tony B' Liar who arranged for a certain number Romanians to come to the UK every year. The B' liar must really hate us !

I don't remember Blair doing that and would be surprised. There must be a link to that, surely!
Oh OK - quotas were introduced in 2007 when Bulgaria and Romania joined the EU: that was surely no different to what other EU countries did?

Toby comments.;- Tony B Liar went to visit the Romanian PM and he did a deal to allow so many Romanians to come to the UK, that's a fact ! How do you think Romanians are living in the UK ?
There was a Family of Romanians who hid inside a control box on one of the Chunnel trains and got to the UK that way, were they immediately deported ? no.

Skylark posted.:-I think all countries which wanted to limit immigration did that. Britain didn't want to repeat its mistake over Polish immigration so imposed limits
Toby comments.:- Polish Immigration was no accident not a mistake ! , none of the Immigration over the last 20ish years was an accident, it was deliberate Labour Policy as recently admitted by both Blair and Milliband. Statistics show that 80% of Immigrants vote Labour so a cabal of Labour bigwigs, Blair, Harman, Prescott and Lord Fondlebum came up with the Mass Immigration idea. If Scotland gets Independance then all those Scottish Labour MP's will be gone, Labour is virtually unelectable so that's why they promoted Mass Immigration. They did not care that the black tide sweeping across Britain would bring massive problems, all they thought about was themselves. However now that the truth has come out, a truth already suspected by many ! instead of paving the way for a Labour comeback, it has hurt Labour very badly which is one reason UKIP is doing well. A by-product of the Mass Immigration is that Blair, Brown, Harman, Precott and Fondlebum all now have death sentences on their heads.

Toby, you are hard work. I never said that allowing Polish workers in was an accident; I said it was a mistake. European immigration has nothing to do with voting; I think you'll find that European workers don't tend to become British citizens.

Toby comments.;- They don't need to because they get free NHS, Schooling, Benefits without having to become British. I don't think that allowing Polish workers to come to Britain was a mistake, I would rather have ten Polish Christians than a hundred Muslims of any race ! The mistake was to let so many come because it was very bad for the indiginous. Students and school leavers used to be able to find low paid jobs to do to earn some cash and it got them into the habit of working which I reckon is a good thing. Now all those jobs are done by Poles and other eastern europeans so the traditional low paid jobs that students used to do are no longer available and consider the double whammy of University fees which this bullying government imposed.

Of course the Poles have hardly been an unqualified success.
They are the most consistent offenders at drinking and driving; they consistently urinate in public places when drunk; they frequently get into drunken fights; and they have increasingly become involved in other areas of crime.
Naturally their bad behaviour only applies to a minority of the Polish population over her but the same could be said about Muslim immigrants!
And of course increasingly Poles are refusing to learn English, refusing to mix with the indigenous community and an increasing number of them are no longer bothering to work but are simply coming to Britain to live off benefits.
