Quote: I think people get more "mainstream" as they get older...or they retreat back to the good old days. Or, as I did, there just comes a point where they say, "ok, that's enough - have everything I need now". About 5 yrs ago, I turned off the car radio, put Oldfield's The Songs of Distant Earth in my cd player and a year later it was still there - traveling music for miles and miles. I've changed out the cds many times since but never listened to top 40 radio again. Don't miss it either. A favorite song by a favorite songster (and friends)

Beth, you're like my bloke. He very rarely listens to 'new' music; he's happy with the (large amount) of music he's been listening to for years. Occasionally he'll get into a new band (The Arcade Fire, McCluskey,) but that's unusual.
Whereas, I get bored with stuff after a few years.
I've recently been downloading (sh, don't tell the polis) playlists created by punters and put up online for others to share, and I'm working my way through a fantastic one representing the best of the South by South West Festival in Austin this year. Lots of lovely new bands that I've never heard of before.

Lots of lovely new bands that I've never heard of before. Sounds like you're having fun with it, RG. If someone handed me a new playlist and said, "check it out", I'd probably do it - and maybe even find a couple things I like. But, honestly, I see it as more trouble than it's worth when I have such a wealth of music I love. Probably, running into the blank wall (imo) of rap and hip hop is what wore me down. Might change someday (where do you find your playlists, btw) but am in a nice comfort zone right now. Can't seem to get a video to embed. This is Tom Petty, Learning to Fly. Enjoy. (Tampered with yer post beth...is this the one you were after? - AH) Thanks, AH. I really wanted the video though - such a freaky little vid. The embed is disabled. I'll just add the link.

Beth,
Re: Where do you find your playlists query.
I'm pleading the fifth.
(Is it the fifth? And can I plead it if I'm not American?)

I tried listening to some of the youtube links posted by others here, but noticed some of the links are broken, including the link to Jimmy Wayne's "Paper Angels", which always moves my heart. www.cmt.com/videos/jimmy-wayne/37691/paper-angels.jhtml This link will have to do for the video, until Youtube has the link back up. Here are the lyrics! QUOTE: After every day-after-Thanksgiving sale the malls just ain't complete Without a bunch of decorations and a paper angel tree There's artificial smiles on artificial tree limbs Saying what she'd love to have and what to buy for him Well i hope Maggie likes her new winter clothes and her buggy with a baby doll And maybe Tom'll smile with his new nike shoes when he shoots that basketball I can't help but wishing that i could do more [Chorus:] Paper angels you're in my thoughts and prayers No matter where you are right now remember God's right there He's asking all of us to help take care Of his paper angels everywhere Going through the mail almost every afternoon i see a Mom and Dad's Worst dream There on the back of a money-saving ad to get my carpet cleaned Height, weight, hair, eyes, date missing, and DOB A child's name, a picture, and the words 'have you seen me?' [Chorus:] Paper angels you're in my thoughts and prayers No matter where you are right now remember God's right there He's asking all of us to help take care Of his paper angels everywhere His documented bruises fill a folder file She's a second grade self-portrait drawn without a smile And every town is littered with this kind of debris We've got to stop this madness and it's up to you and me [Chorus:] Paper angels you're in my thoughts and prayers No matter where you are right now remember God's right there He's asking all of us to help take care Of his paper angels everywhere Paper angels everywhere www.elyrics.net/read/j/jimmy-wayne-lyrics/paper-angels-lyrics.html

I occasional venture out of the golden period. Your link didn't work, but you got me curious because I love Nickelback... So I did go and listen to this song on youtube, and it is a great song! I've decided to buy this cd now, not only for this song, but for their many other great songs like "Photograph" and "Far Away"- which is my favorate. Thanks for posting this. I stickied this thread so we could all go back and listen to our favorate songs whenever we wanted. I hope that's ok with everyone.

"She Will Be Loved" By: Maroon5 is one of my favorate songs lately. Here's the link, enjoy! Your link doesn't work. A lot of these YouTube song videos get taken down because of copyrights, etc.. That is weird because that link works fine for me! I've been coming here and listening to it.

Anna, that one has the embedding disabled (although you can get the song with a different image in the selections at the bottom of the vid), but I think you can get there from this link. Cute graphics. Funny song (1966). Some of the US Youtube links don't work in Germany and visa versa..Youtube has a twin site in Germany and you're automatically logged in there..Some songs are illegal in Germany too.. Copyright laws are also different and if whoever holds the rights to a song in a certain country protests to Youtube that's the end of that link in that country..

Anna, I'm wondering whether, when a vid is available to us in the U.S., it's better to post it as a link or an embed. Can you play embedded songs that you can't connect to via a link?

I absolutely love Enya! This song "Caribbean Blue" with the fairy tale video reminds us how beautiful it is to see life through the eyes of a child!
