It is rather illumination to watch the machinations of our representatives in the mother of Parliaments as they try and correct their bad press over expenses; but at the same time not loose a penny of what they already grab. Most of them now accept that the second homes scam HAS to be corrected, and they don't mind losing that, provided they get more allowances to make up the difference, of course. Brown comes up with the idea of a daily allowance, and while the figure was never set in stone, it varied at between £100 and £150 per day. That of course would probably give most of them a decent rise over the second home allowances they already trouser.
This is really great. You become an MP, and you get a decent salary structure, plus more perks than ANY comparable job; and Brown suggests that IN ADDITION they get paid to do the job they are ALREADY paid to do. Brilliant!. Apparently this idea has not met with the support of the opposition parties, so if he DOES try and force it through it will have to be with his overall majority remaining united through the lobbies.
But IMHO, when they decide to reform the blatant fiddling, and in some cases downright theft of SOME honourable members, NONE of them will lose a penny. And what fun it will be to see how they go about it, and how they will justify whatever wheeze they come up with.
Should be a gas!!!!!
