captain meow is asleep on my arm, rolled onto his back, legs sprawled across the keyboard I am stuck here as I havent got the heart to disturb him. (he's not playing fair, he's purring in his sleep.. ..my little pal, my constant companion. He was very hard to find you know. I started looking for a kitten between heats, so they were scarce. Now when I was young all it took to get a kitten was to see a "free kittens" sign on a pole in front of someone's house, go in and take one. Now though..oh the crappy experience I had...To get a kitten now you have to go online, to CraigsList, look for ads, call the numbers and hear all this total BS about them wanting to see a recommendation from your regular vet that you're ok to give one to AND they want what they call a "re-homing fee". Well, they're just mungrel kittens which can be hard to find homes for all of them, that's why they were always free - and I told a couple of these opportunists this, one of them I actually said, "What do you need the thirty dollars for, beer?" Oh you should have heard the foul language I got back for that! (I found it hilarious)(I find everything hilarious mostly). Another woman I phoned told me she would have to meet me at a neutral location, so I won't know where she lives. (wtf?) Finally one day, when I was starting to think I'd just have to wait till spring estress, I found one kitten left of a litter, far away. I drove. Far. And the woman told me all the "good looking" kittens were spoken for, all that was left was the black one..people want a black cat the least she said. But I think he's beautiful. I picked him up and he cuddled right in and purred immediately, and I told him "I'm sure you're the best one". And he was! He's kept me company for four years now. We watch TV together (sort of) in the evenings. Then he hunts all night, and comes to sleep next to my pillow. ...I will admit, raising him from 7 weeks, the stages of development he went through were..great actually. But we'd play and play and he'd nap inbetween, all the time developing his physical skills. Then one day he took all his toys, out of my bedroom, where he had stayed with me full time, and essentially "left home" ..went and found a bed in another room, the whole thing. I never said this to anyone, but it made me sad! Well anyway...other things happened too. There was the day he taught me to NEVER lock him in my room (yea, he crapped on my computer) XD And there was the agreement I had made to neuter him (didn't want to)..but the day came I said "Come on, we'll go get some ice cream!" - and he got in the basket, and the car..but we didn't go to Baskin Robbins! (It was amazing really. They removed his testicles, but didn't use a stitch or even a band-aid after! Poor little guy! I felt guilty for a couple years after i did that to him. But he has a good life, he's spoiled and loved and has full run of the house which he lets me share with him. Okay...I am gonna have to wake him now...

In Britain we have the world famous Battersea Dogs' Home which in spite of its name also has a large number of cats.
The animals are looked after and placed with owners seeking to adopt an animal.
Is there any equivalent organisation in America?

In Britain we have the world famous Battersea Dogs' Home which in spite of its name also has a large number of cats. The animals are looked after and placed with owners seeking to adopt an animal. Is there any equivalent organisation in America? Yes, there is PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) - they protest fur coats and animal testing and such. And there's the ASPCA (American Society To Prevent Cruelty To Animals) - they actually have police that go around finding pets that have been abandoned or put in dire conditions. And thirdly, there's always a local "animal shelter" - which is where I would have loved to go first, myself, to take a kitten in danger of being destroyed if they don't find a home for it, but they charge $150 (because of vet bills they incur)..and while I eventually spent close to two thousand on mine, I did have to spread the expense out. (Just getting a "free one" was to mean an initial outlay of $400 for the vet and a box and food, toys etc...I couldn't add another 150 to that, so I looked for a free one. It's a shame really because not all that long before I was ready to get one, I found the cutest little trio of orange kittens someone had dumped on the side of the road, one day. Put them in my car, wanted to keep them but wasn't in the position to do so, so I went and stood in front of the food store holding one, offering it to the young women (older women, and men said no...young women said "Aaaaw!" -the three of them were homed in 30 minutes. I felt good about saving them from the rough life they'd have lived as ferile cats, but I had wanted to keep them. (I called them Moe, Larry and Curly) Yea, now that I think of it, I did run into some more honorable types during my search. There are people who rescue cats and dogs, keep them at their home, pay to have the vet see them, feed them, and then try to re-home them. When they wanted money I actually felt bad I couldn't pay it to them! There are some nice people out there...

Well, it's now officially cold (55 F). My shorts - which I still wear only because I am in denial that summer has gone- are insufficient to keep me warm now. Perhaps socks on my feet and a sweater, and I can keep wearing them? (I once made it till November before I put my shorts away for the season). I'm quite comfortable like this, and certain that so long as I keep dressing this way, winter's arrival will be delayed. (em, won't it? )

My cat and I were looking in the fridge together last night - we do that - and suddenly I hear a rustling sound and there he is dragging a whole loaf of bread across the floor! I go to get it back and he swears at me. (I've learned to respect that. He doesn't do it often, but when he does, that's it. It's his. I have to back off and retrieve the item later ) Why did he want the bread? I don't know. He doesn't even like bread (tries to bury it). But, hey, I didn't know why he wanted that banana either. - or the potato. -or the apple. These are heavy items, he has to really work to steal them. It sure does give me a good laugh to see him trying to make his getaway with these things though! ;D

mm...I'm debating whether to watch the debate tonight!
You know when the League of Women Voters used to sponsor these debates, and moderate them, they were actually debates. But it's been two decades now since the two major parties, set up their own debates, so they could pre-plan and choreograph them themselves. They're not debates now, they're a series of pre-planned, rehearsed and polished mini speeches designed for the right effect. Oh and since the debates are held by the two major parties, we no longer see any third party candidates to chose from. Can anyone say "crooked"? mm So that's why I'm debating watching the debate.

Well....we have had more rain in the last week than we have had all combined for the last two years. We also have more rain in the forecast for this weekend.........the plants and trees don't know what to do with themselves!!!!
I don't even have to give a thought to watching the debate........there is a whole lot of other fiction I would rather watch on tv.....for that matter....I have a few SciFi books I need to read that would still be closer to the truth than anything that will come out of either of the candidates mouths.

Hi all! Well this month's magazine is ready for printing on the 11th. We got some great contributions for it. And a new month's contest (game) will be announced the day before the magazine posts (the 10th). Today I get to go shopping (I go monthly, it's an event). While I'm out, I'm going to look at an i-pad, though I'm not sure I could actually use one of those. Guess I just want to know what they're for. If it's basically a smart phone with a bigger screen, I might just be interested.. My new neighbor -a homeless woman, living in her car- has moved on. I guess she got some money somehow and put gas in it. I pray for her safety, and to have a better life in her future. K, coffee's ready. I must go get some. Have a great day everybody!

My hubby has an iPad.....and a Samsung Nexus.......one is personal the other from work. He is the public information officer and he regularly sends out news releases ......if he were to use his personal ipad if a case went to court they could subpoena it.....so that's why he has to keep them separate. He loves his ipad........I joke that if there was a fire....he would save it first then come back for the rest of us........

He loves his ipad........I joke that if there was a fire....he would save it first then come back for the rest of us........ Well, I looked, and in November, Staples is going to start selling tablets that run on Windows 8, rather than Android. They're supposed to be much better, though a bit larger, in thickness. So my guess is it's not time to buy one this month. I came to the same conclusion about anyone looking to buy a new desktop...they're changing...the tower is all inside the back of the monitor now, and they're touch-screen. I'd wait a bit if i had to buy now. I saw these with only 4 Gig RAMS, and they should be 8, so..let them finish making these fully capable, stabilize where they're going with them, then think of buying one, I'd think. Because it's just a bad time to buy right when they're changing how they do it - for instance, say you bought a Vista computer 2 months before 7 came out -> That'd be a regretful thing for the next 5 years you'd be stuck using it. Of course, that can work out the other way around too, because if you'd bought XP just before they changed to Vista, that would have been a happy thing (Vista sucked)...So now: it'd be a good thing to hear some user feedback about Windows 8 before too long goes by. (It's maddening though, because my Windows 7 PC came with no copy of the Operating System...you pay all that money and you're only "allowed" to use it on one computer, once. (wtf). So this is bad, because 7 is a good OS, and if 8 turns out awful, it'd be nice to be able to re-use 7, but you wont be able to. So maybe, one should grab a Windows 7 PC before they're gone. I dont know. Gotta hear about how people like windows 8, soon! It's so tricky. You know what was easy yesterday? I needed to replace my storm radio/cd player. It doesn't have to be great, it's just for storms, on battery power, but it shouldn't be total crap obviously. Well, I saw a nice Memorex unit for 40.00, then went over to big lots and bought it for 18 bucks (18!) ;D Score! The thing's beautiful, works great. Happy purchase there. Now, a TV, on the other hand...has to actually be a TV / DVD Player/ Surround System that has all recent plug types, and can interface with your PC. You need a router, and to buy right. It can be difficult to get the education to understand how & why to upgrade to this latest tech, and I had a hard time with this. But it seems I'll be needing a new surround system and blue-ray player, soon. And all they want for it is an arm, and, oh, also a leg. (unless I'm wiling to settle for crappy sound, but I'm not. My PC speakers are an equivalent of a $250 pair of Bose, for instance. Musician. *shrug*) Well that concludes my report on my fact-finding tour I went on yesterday. If you'll excuse me now, i have to go start sawing off my arm and my leg!

Cold front came thru last night and dropped the temps into the 40's......(or the 8's for you other people) Well...I finally get to tell.....my daughter in law was picked for a reality show. It filmed for a little over a month and we all had to keep silent and make excuses for her absence....I still don't know how she did..or if she wins anything...have to wait and see the show....I'm not sure when it airs but it will be on TBS......It is King of the Nerds........she's a superhero comic junky.......she actually really is.........here is a link to the website....her name is Genevieve.. www.tbs.com/shows/king-of-the-nerds/

Uh oh, you might have to just stop talking to that one. Ooh! It's not a trick is it? I remember when I was winning a trophy at MB (there's a whole week of voting, and they're really down on so many little ways one can cheat to get more votes), I got a request for help in my mail. It offered me a bribe (that would break a rule and cost me the trophy), so I explained I'd help her just to help her, no bribe needed. And she acted like she didn't get what I said, and kept begging me to take the bribe as if she was having to do that to get the help. Finally I just mailed her the instructions she needed, and that was that. But she had tried repeatedly to get me to break the rules, and guess what? It turned out it was a nutjob admin testing me. ..So....is your customer actually those people who tell you you cant advertise in certain ways? because his repeated attempts could be an effort to get you to give information you're not supposed to give. - Just a thought.

But.....I haven't gotten one so far today......(let me knock on wood!!!)............so I'm hoping I've been firm enough and explicit enough!!! Ugh!!!!
