Thank you Beez - so sweet and lovely. I hope everyone got to see that one. Very special. I'm not a country music fan, but I like Michael Martin Murphey. His music is a little country, a lot western with some pop mingled in. Mostly, it sounds like folk to me - what some call "heartland" music. I don't know how he fares on the world stage, but he's much loved in the U. S..

A couple more by MMM. Looks like these were part of the same concert. His keyboard player was outstanding - great intro and coda on Wildfire - especially. These are both from a 1970s album, Blue Sky - Night Thunder.

I've just come across this haunting thing called Gortoz a Ran by Denez Prigent and Lisa Gerrard. If it sounds like Welsh that's because it is in Breton. Apparently it was specifically requested for inclusion in Black Hawk Downhere Warning to Christians: this site will offend (or at least try damned hard ;D) Some say we must die to enter Hell; they have it backwards: we must leave Hell to live

In the course of checking my ridiculously camp bit of ballet, I came across this fellow of whom I have never heard. Normally I like neither the operatic style (or opera!) nor male singers but for Russia I make an exception - especially when he goes as OTT as this bloke! The sounds and accent of the language suit a deep powerful voice. The same can sometimes be true of German. It's a toss-up whether the Nazis or the Soviets had the best marching songs!
Here he is in two classic folk songs, Moscow Nights(aka Midnight in Moscow)
and Katyusha

one of the greatest story songs ever done, and an exquisite video to boot. the chap who made the video when i sent him the song believes it to be his favorite of all he's ever done.

Even if you are not into classical music, give this one a listen. It is my favourite song of all time. I play it over and over, and it never fails to move me; sometimes to tears.
