Sounds like a lovely day. Are those things in the pic from Dr. Who......or did you watch Venus crossing the sun too long? Those are the Daleks. On Dr. Who they're the bad guys, robots who keep showing up to try and take everybody hostage. They're pretty stupid looking, as robots go (In the early shows, I swear they used toilet plungers for arms), so this -and their terribly cheesy voices- gives the Daleks a comical edge. (though unintended. I just learned something. The reason it's called "Dr. Who, is because in the very first episode, someone asked "Well, what is his name? Doctor who? lol Ah 1963. Brilliant. I love old sci-fi. It's comedy.

This is post #333. Does that mean it's half evil? I'm waiting for the UPS truck, watching the rain come down. I've been doing some looking around (mm, velvet rope. Hope I make the cut.): I've also been over at facebook talking to friends about meeting up in Finland. It always amazes me that I made friends so good we send each other christmas gifts and would think to pay thousands of dollars just to visit. We decided next July. Okay, so this is just a "wall post", so there'll be no brilliant profundity here. Just a bit of what I'm up to... I'd like to recommend you start a blog too, and keep us updated about what goes on in your daily life. It's just a way to know each other. -like facebook. UPS is here! yay! (no, they're not, Just practicing

I sometimes read other people's blogs but the idea of actually writing one frightens me, My life is on the whole so resolutely boring that no one would be interested!
And of course when anything interesting does happen it is almost always something that you don't want to talk about in public!

Oh Mike....I have read quite a bit of your writing and always thought you were brilliant.
I am responsible for writing our company blog.......just started it a short time ago.....was terrified at first......now I've decided I just have to be me on them. Not many readers so far....but hoping it will pick up.
Hunny (as we say in Texas) is a hoot! I'm enjoying her contributions here tremendously!!

The secret to a successful blog - they say - is to provide information the readers can't get anywhere else...even if what that means is just them getting a view of what goes on behind the scenes in the company. Also the personality of the writer is a major selling point, so Sadie is quite right to think to focus on "just being me"... A "member blog" type of blog, on the other hand -like here- is merely about occasionally posting what mundane things go on in your day. So if Mike wrote one of these here, it may contain thought pieces occasionally, yes, but mostly we'd be let in on what goes on at the Marshall household! (And he may or may not wish to share that, so..). Anyway, it's just a thought in case anyone does want to. (I know everyone isn't going to be like me -open and not caring if everyone knows my stuff) (well, except for the top secret location of my shoe box ;D

Can anyone tell me about wearing bifocals to use the computer?
I just got bifocals for the first time, and there's just no way I can use these on the computer!
I'd have to crook my head all the way back and look down my nose to see through the reading lenses to see the computer clearly.
Is this just how it is? People DON'T use bifocals on the computer?
I still have to use plain old reading glasses, to read?
(Then what the hell are bifocals FOR??

I need glasses to see far (actually probably ten feet or more).......that's all. They just changed my prescription....a little stronger (age....how cruel and unfair)......and now I am having a major battle with reading (especially on the computer)....glasses on...glasses off....shoved up on my head....I asked about contacts....they said I would have to do one with the prescription....one without...and learn to deal with it that way......CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE HOW THAT WORKS.......or I could try bifocals .........I'm starting to wonder about saving up for that eye surgery.....but I always worry about hearing an "oops" in the middle of that........

I'm having such a weird day.......was leaving my house this morning for work and notice our neighbors dogs out. I sat in the car for a bit.....really trying to talk myself out of stopping and doing anything about it. I love dogs.....we have a busy street......but understand....while one of the dogs is an adorable schnauzer.....the other one is a 180 lb Rottweiler. He's a sweet dog.....but in the back of your mind is always.....what if he doesn't recognize me....what if he is ticked off.....it's scary. I went and knocked....then pounded on their front door.....meanwhile.....Thunder is running back and forth along the neighbors fence barking (which rattles windows) at their dog.....(is he ticked off...EGADS).....They are not home....in fact...it looks like they've been gone a couple of days at least......so I get them to the back yard...to the new gate, because they built a new wooden fence inside of the concrete block fence that Thunder knocked down.......and the gate is broken.....imagine that.......there are two bags of potting soil and three plastic planters.....don't think that's going to hold him. I call hubby...who had just arrived at his work....he heads back....meanwhile I go in the back yard to find things to block the gate.....Thunder is standing in their pond getting a drink......when he gets out....grabs me by the leg and wants to play.....at least I hope he is playing....but it freaks me out when his mouth goes around my leg........manage to drag everything I can find over to the gate....while randomly being dragged around by the dog......hubby goes to our house and gets things to hammer the gate closed...neighbors finally call us back...they are out of town....idiot teenager is supposed to be watching the dogs.......they will be back tonight.....went home and changed clothes......have gone back three times....and they are still in the yard....so...hopefully no wrestling with him again today!! Big dog.....scary....scary dog........going to have nightmares tonight about the movie Cujo.......

It's 6:00 AM and my air conditioner is cranked. Has been round the clock. Guess I need a bigger one with Global Warming. ..Years ago, air conditioning was considered a luxury in New England. You wouldn't use it that often. Can't live without it now. Oh well... Grand Funk...

I'm trying to buy a TV.
I say "trying" because it seems the manufacturers of things have added a whole new layer of entirely unnecessary complexities to how dvd players and TV's work. Their aim, it seems, is to make me have to re-buy all the stuff I already have (and am quite happy with) with a newer, allegedly improved format. But it isn't improved. It's just ass hard to make work without a science degree, layered with extraneous things you can't figure out why anyone would use (skype, 3D glasses, internet on your television, etc), all just to be able to charge you all over again for what you already bought, and to make SURE none of it is backwards compatible, so you can't get out of doing it.
And this is not to mention how they've removed the tuner from the DVR so you have to buy it separately (a way of doubling the price of it). This tactic, being successfully schlepped onto us, is being repeated everywhere. (I half expect the next time i buy a car, to have the salesman ask me if I'd like to buy a steering wheel "to go with it".)
Anyway, today was aggravating. I guess I'll go watch a movie on my old TV! (I'm going to watch it the old-fashioned way: insert disc / press play / watch.. that is the ONLY way that it is done. anything more is just plain stupidity. you should get a tv from goodwill. much cheaper, and a REAL tv

Have a DVR in my bedroom.......not sure where hubby took the VCR.....miss it....would like a watch a movie the old fashioned way also......... The man told me the reason my DVD Player wont play is that it doesn't come with "the codecs" installed. he said "all" I have to do is put a chicken in a bag, wave it over my head and recite the alphabet backwards while standing on one leg, and...well, it seemed he was saying approximately that! (Really he said i needed to go online with the dvd player itself (it'll do that?) and use my remote to type in a google search for "xvid", and then download version 2.1.1, which is "firmware", and, oh yea, the chicken!! I asked him doesn't it seem incredulous for a company to make it so hard, when the codecs were always pre-installed before? Why change to a nightmare procedure we have to swim through? He assured me that "old people" always react that way to new things, but "new is better". Okay, now I have to go back to fathoming some algebraic equations (I'm trying to make toast!) i'll be a million bucks that you didn't tell the fool what i would have

I just spoke with my friend in Finland I have been missing. It made me feel quite happy, I'm very fond of the friends I made there.
There are thousands of forums online, all with 6 members (if not none), but I have come to value such places very highly, because you meet people, from across the globe, and with different perspectives; and sometimes you make a friend you actually come to love as such.
I've had marvelous times at forums, doing magazines, and creative threads to have some fun and laughter.
My favorite site was a women's game/forum, where I made a few girlfriends I still treasure. I don't know if I'll ever have such a magic time again, or feel so close to some people on the internet, but I came here to see what might be here. The serious discussions are ok, not usually my thing, but interesting, but I always worry I'll alienate people with my strong opinions. So I started a little blog here because it seems safer and familiar to me. lol
I'll start a game thread or two soon, hoping it may be some fun for people here. But we'll have to see if there is interest.
I gotta' go have a day now. Good morning folks! Be happy!
you should NEVER, ever, allow someone else to control you. if you don't voice your opinions because you're afraid of someone not liking you because of it, that is exactly what you are doing. you should say what you believe, and not care whether or not anyone likes it

Well, that was when I first started here. I feel ok about speaking up now. I've even taken a liking to the "serious discussions". In fact I started following the news again after 7 years of not watching any news! (I got tired of it always being the same, and untruthful and awful). But now I'm kind of enjoying checking it each day again. So I'm getting a lot out of being here
