On Saturday Jan 10, 2009 my beloved home state of North Carolina will make history like never before
On that day current Lieutenant Govenor Beverly Perdue will take the oath of office as the States 1st Femal Govenor
Perdue defeated the Mayor of Charlotte NC(our largest City)Pat McCrory in the general election in November
She replaces 2 term outgoing Gov Mike Easley
Among those in attendance at the Gubentorial Inauguration is NC Native and comedic legend Andy Griffith a friend and supporter of the incoming Govenor

Good for N.C. !!! We had our first female governor, Martha Layne Collins, in the mid-80s. I thought she did a pretty good job, but we have not had a female in that position since. Either the good ol' boys got together and decided not to let that happen again - or Martha L. passed the word, "you don't want to go there, sisters. No fun at all." lol

Other things being equal (which isn't always the case, sadly) I'm all in favour of more women in positions of power.
That doesn't mean that just because a candidate is female that women should vote for them of course!
