news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16289446.stmJohn Terry has pledged to prove his innocence over a racially aggravated public order charge. The Crown Prosecution Service has decided there is sufficient evidence to prosecute Terry after an exchange with QPR's Anton Ferdinand. The BBC understands Terry will not stand aside as England captain and intends, if selected, to captain against Netherlands in February. "I will fight tooth and nail to prove my innocence," Terry said. Terry, 31, who denies the claims, issued a statement which added: "I am disappointed with the decision to charge me and hope to be given the chance to clear my name as quickly as possible. "I have never aimed a racist remark at anyone and count people from all races and creeds among my closest friends. "I have campaigned against racism and believe there is no place for it in society." (partial quote from BBC News) On a personal level I'm said because I'm a Chelsea supporter and Terry is my team's captain. I don't know if he said what he did in the heat of the moment - it was a fiercely fought match - but whatever, the law has got involved now. Not sure how I feel about that to be honest; he's hardly got a track record for that sort of thing. Of course he shouldn't have said what he did if he did say it. I hope he didn't because he's one of our key players and he could wind up in prison because of it.

Toby asks.:- What's going on ?
You heard about the couple whose little 1 month Baby boy was found to have ALL it's ribs broken and it had been buggered, the couple were let out on Police Bail !
So they are going to throw the book at John Terry for some remark he may/may not have made
Gawd help us all !!
Time for drastic action !

So is Terry remaded in custody? That would be serious stuff.
He MAY end up in prison presumably because that is the maximum penalty for the offence. He has to be convicted first - and there are other alternatives to jail.

No, Terry played tonight in the game against Spurs which ended in a draw.
Football games can get very overheated and Terry may or may not have said something to Ferdinand who's no angel himself - a notorious diver and prone to try and get opponents sent off.
I doubt if he will get convicted and even if he does I can't see him going to jail.
Rich people rarely do.
