Anna, I haven't seen the film, but, from your description, it sounds a lot like the book - which keeps readers guessing, as well. Hi Beth! You read an amazing amount of books! I envy you! The Shutter Island story though probably causes insomnia! If it's not science fiction i like to have only one version of reality in a film or book! I guess i'm old fashion! ;D

I don't read as much as I used to - have read 2 books since the first of the year. 2 books in 3 months isn't very good. I read this one in papperback about 2 years ago - still have it around here somewhere. I had enjoyed Dennis Lehane's Mystic River, so thought Shutter Island would be good, too. It is, but, honestly, both books were a little disturbing, as was the Mystic River movie - so, apparently Shutter Island is just following the tradition. I'd like to see it but may wait until it comes out on DVD. We have tickets for Alice next weekend. Woo Hoo !

The Swedish film "Lilya 4-ever" sometimes called "Lilja 4-ever" is based on a true story about a Russian teenage girl, who was deceptively lured to Sweden in the hope of finding a better life. In Sweden she is held in captivity and brutally forced into prositution. The young girl commits suicide in the end. The film portrays a world of hurt that people need to become aware of!
It's hard to find the Region 1 dvd for this film for the US. I use a multi-system dvd player so i can play both European region 2 and US region 1 films. Some PCs can play all dvd region codes too.

It's hard to imagine in present day Germany that a madness reigned here over 60 years ago. The Battle of Stalingrad was the beginning of the end for Hitler and whatever drove his movement. The YouTube Trailer is in part in German and the subtitles can be seen better on the direct link below the forum embedded link.

The film "The Lovely Bones" was perhaps made for all the parents of missing children. Heaven and Hell are so close to each other in this film and we are reminded that right and wrong are just a choice away. We can't hold ourselves accountable for the choices of others. 14 year old Susie, with reservations, accepts the invitation of the "friendly neighbor" to view the clubhouse that he claimed to have built for the neighborhood children. Tragedy follows and a very loving family suffers what no words can describe. There is also a beauty in the film that only those who know sadness as well can experience.

Short but sweet. And disturbing.

There were several films made about the so called zodiac killer, a serial killer who was never caught. I'm only familar with the film starring Jake Gyllenhaal and it was disturbing enough.

The film "Last Dance" is another troubling film. Sharon Stone plays a woman condemned to death for a double murder while strung out on crack cocaine. I can be as cold as a polar night, if I feel a death sentence should be carried out. However the "blind justice" with which this death sentence is carried out in the film is disturbing.

when we made the movie CANNIBAL in 2005 we stayed as close to the real true story as possible.. used every piece of information that we could get about the Armin Meiwes case (he was the real cannibal who looked in the internet for someone he could slaughter and eat .. he found Victor Brandes there who's biggest wish was to be slaughtered and eaten .. the rest is history) .. so when people finally saw the movie they got totally shocked and also grossed out by its extreme realism (quite frankly: me too) .. as a result our movie got banned in several countries

The film Star 80 about the aspiring actress and playmate of the year 1980 Dorothy Stratten was pretty frightening. Her manic depressive braggart boyfriend from Vancoucer became obsessively possessive of her and later cruelly murdered her.

I 1st learned of her years ago when watching "Star 80" on network TV. She was killed 10 years and 1 day apart from my family members (my familys' tragedy was on August 15, 1990) and this is 1 reason I got an interest in her after watching the movie. This is an OUTSTANDING movie, very underrated and I wish if Bob Fosse had made MORE movies! I'm convinced Snider was a psycopath and a pathetic ###***! Did you know the movie was filmed in the actual place they lived in when the murder happened? When I learned that years later, the emotions while watching it were stronger.

Rest in Peace Dorothy Stratten!!I have the film "They all Laughed" where Dorothy Stratten played a main role. It's so sad that she got involved with a maniac, who felt he owned her!.

Rest in Peace Dorothy Stratten!!I have the film "They all Laughed" where Dorothy Stratten played a main role. It's so sad that she got involved with a maniac, who felt he owned her!. I remember trying to FIND "They all Laughed" years ago in any video store by me! It took some effort, but I did find a copy! ;D I hate how some movies are way harder to find to even rent than others. Anyway, am glad I found it. She was great in it. Snider was the typical abuser in that he put on his "act" ( ) when he met her and then later showed his true, evil colors. Here's a wonderful tribute site to her: dorothystratten.com/Main_Menu.htmlPeople can really learn from this case. It teaches us that once we learn anyone is an abuser and won't even acknowledge it (Snider) to cut off contact with them for GOOD except if you have to deal with them in court, with the police, etc. It's heartbreaking that her good nature overruled her logical thinking and that she saw Snider that 1 last time after others warned her not to. I identify strongly with this case for many reasons and 1 of them is my Dad had the chance extended to him to leave my Mother and he turned it down. 1 of my family members offered to take him into his home to get away from her verbal/emotional abuse. He wouldn't do it. If he would have, he might be alive today.

Exorcist 3 has a fantastic scene in it that makes even the most ardent horror fan jump - even when they know its coming.
Terrible film but great scene!
