This is probably the most politically incorrect film I've ever seen and also the greatest "Superhero" film ever made! This film is much more intense than all the Batman, Spiderman and Superman films combined! So far most critics seem to be either speechless or in a state of shock! Anyone who watches this film and is "captivated" by it will be forced to think out the box or watch their box be shattered..An onslaught of frightening or brillant visions, terrifying or liberating thoughts! What is truth? It's hard to stay above this presentation!
President Richard Nixon ( ! ) asks the "Watchman" Dr. Manhattan to help the US win the Vietnam war, which he does very successfully. Nixon is elected president 5 times and the Cold War starts leading to an inevitable nuclear war, which the Watchmen seem incapable of preventing!

Of course - yet, an R rating allows children to accompany parents, and, unfortunately parents sometimes don't think. My checkout person at the Market Monday said he really enjoyed the film except for the concern he felt about the several children in the audience. I guess the "superhero" label suggests to some parents that it's ok for kids.

Apart from those who read the original comics 20 years ago...probably one of Alan Moore's finest hours. AH

Oh, and I will probably try and catch this movie...Zack Snyder is a badly underrated director IMO..."300" is one of the greatest comic book to movie productions ever!
His Dawn of the Dead remake is also pretty good.

I guess the "superhero" label suggests to some parents that it's ok for kids. I strictly adhere to the movie ratings in my household. I snuck into Exorcist at the movie theater when I was only 12 (They let me in because someone who was 16 but looked 18 bought the tickets) and it messed me up for life. I slept with the lights on in my room and a cross around my neck for months. To this day, I still get the chills if I ever see a photo of Linda Blair from that movie.

Have you read the book? The bit where she slithers down the stairs and into the kitchen like a snake is great.
Pleasant dreams. ;D

Watchmen will be featured on HBO next month - starting Saturday, January 9. If you haven't seen it, here's your chance. Check your guide for times. I'm sure we'll watch it again.

AH Since Watchmen is one of the minority of films worth seeing more than once i practice my Spanish by watching the Spanish edition. I'm trying to find a Russian edition too! I'm not booked up on the history of the Minute Man and all that stuff, like you probably are. I couldn't resist googling up Captain Metropolis, Dollar Bill and those other Watchmen, who we only see briefly in the film.
Well tell us about the cut scenes Alpha!

Yes, do tell, Alph. We re-watched it a few weeks ago and saved it to DVR for a couple of other people who drop by here occasionally. The idea of owning it is tempting. (congrats on the blu-ray player, btw)

I haven't got it yet, but the Directors cut has an additional 30 minutes of film. Theatrical Version: 156 minutes Directors Cut: 186 minutes I tend to wait a few months for the extended DVD's to come out rather than go to the pictures, theatrical cut are slaves to time limits, directors cuts are the real deal - The "Alexander Revisited" DVD has another 30 minutes of story than the original film...it's the same with several other titles that I own.
