I've been ill for the last few days and today I went to see the doctor.
He examined me and diagnosed me with bronchial pneumonia.
I hope members will understand if I take a bit of time off to try and recover. I've now got to use an inhaler as well as go through a course of penicillin.
Please, everyone, try and keep the ship going. I may not be able to take much part for a week or so.
Could someone please set up the Member of the Month poll because it's about time we ran it please?
Sorry to be such a nuisance - Mike's had two minor angina attacks as well in the last week!
We are like the walking wounded right now.
Sorry everyone!
Thank you for being such good people.

Thank you for your kind words.
My angina attacks were quite mild ones but Lin's bronchial pneumonia is a real worry.
She's had to take to her bed and I'm looking after her and the kids - doing all the cooking and housework and so on.
She's on penicillin and now has a bronchial inhaler and is taking some bronchial linctus.
I'm making sure she's warm and rested but I'm not really much of a doctor and as you can imagine Lin frets terribly at being a patient.
She wants to be active and involved and physical but she's weak and coughing and watering eyes and wheezing.
I hope it will get better soon - the doctor warned her if she hadn't seen him she might have got a more serious kind of pneumonia.
I will try to do my bit here while she's away and hope that members will be understanding that neither of us will be able to put in much of an effort for the next week or so.
Thank you to everyone!

I had a bout of asthmatic pneumonia a few weeks back. Really sucks. With the right antibiotics Lin should be back to normal fairly soon. Wishing her a speedy recovery.
Oh, and don't worry about being much of a doc. What she needs is a housekeeper, childcare provider, and all around nursemaid. You're doing brilliantly.
Lots and lots of liquids.

Lin - if you can get the Drs to supply you with oxygen, it would be good. When I had pneumonia the oxygen was wonderful- it probably did not save my life (if I had been that bad I wouldn't have been sent home, I hope) but it often felt like it did.
What would be really good is if houses were all fitted with an oxygen supply, which you just fit your mask to when you feel like some.

Thank you to everyone for your good wishes. Lin is still very rough and unfortunately I have caught a much milder version of her ailment.
We have both drastically cut down smoking (over 50% less than before) and are taking linctus, penicillin and Lin is using her inhalor.
We're worried about the children but so far (touch wood!) neither of them has picked up the nasty virus that has laid Lin low.
I do apologise for our inability to spend much time here but hopefully in a few days we will be back to normal again .
I know Lin feels extremely guilty about being absent from her board but I know members will bear with her and understand that it is NOT from choice.
Thank you again for all your kind wishes.

There's absolutely no reason for Lin or you for that matter to feel guilty about being absent here! Health, family matters, general well being and a lot of other matters take priority. This board should be for leisure time and relaxation.
I did a total fast -just water- for 7 days and that killed my cigarette habit for good. Nicotine is a tough addiction to beat.

Illness in the family strikes again; Mike has been having a lot of giddy turns and of course earlier this year one was so bad he fell on the floor and broke his collar-bone.
He also blacked out a few weeks ago and I had to take him to hospital where we await the results of a brain scan.
So if I've been a bit quiet lately I'm very sorry.

Hi Gibby. Nice to hear from you again.
I'm OK - bored of course with this endless mini-lockdown - but Mike's been quite a worry with his frequent giddiness and when he fainted for a few seconds it really frightened me.
He's had a brain scan that showed no tumours or anything like that but he's still having giddy turns - yesterday just the one but today he's had three and two days ago he had four and sometimes it seems to happen a dozen times or so a day.
Of course you can't get anywhere with the doctors who expect you just to talk to them on the phone which is pretty useless in this type of situation.
But we're bearing up and hoping for the best.
Nice to see you again!

Nice to see you again! It's lovely to catch up on here too, I have been absent from the forums for a long time, it's nice to be back. I hope Mike's health improves, presumably they have checked out his inner ear which can cause giddy turns?

I'm still thinking of Mike, I hope his dizzy spells pass.
It could be an inner ear issue maybe?

Today is the first day for ages that he hasn't had a dizzy spell.
I don't know about inner ear problems; I know he's hard of hearing and has to wear a hearing aid and that hereditary deafness runs in his family and a niece of his has inner ear disease.
But trying to get to see a doctor or hospital is very hard right now with the fixation on Covid.
All I can do is keep him safe and well and hope for the best.
As I say, today was a good day. Normally he has three or four giddy turns a day but today none!
