It certainly is (in two senses - 'mush' as in, for instance, 'mushy peas,' in other words, soft ones) and also as a word for man (in which sense it derives from the Romanes expression 'mush' meaning man.) Tush (that's a Yiddish expression meaning backside!) To me it means in slang, face or mouth pronounced moosh as in shut your face or shut your mouth. It is said when you don't want to listen to a what a person has to say.

So it's yet another of our cultural contributions to the English language!

I come from Aberdeen Scotland and now live in Geelong, Victoria, Australia.
