This is a very contemporary film about a career woman and the difficulties in finding a serious relationship with the opposite sex! It has a lot of amusing and silly scenes. A lot of psychological depth too. I loved the happy ending against all odds! I found the liberal use of the f-word, etc. irritating! Yes! Me and my Grandmother agree on that! I hate to see educated people use that lingo! I'm glad the translations in other languages didn't follow the original dialogue! Otherwise a good film!

That's what we're like in England, though. We're terrible. Ought to be ashamed of ourselves, etc. The thing is, I have seen B Jones, but did not notice the swearing. I do hope it wasn't cut.
Anna - have you seen the great Charlotte Coleman at the start of "4 Weddings and a Funeral?" Now, that's swearing.

Hated Bridget Jones.
Hated it.
Thought her inability to live an independent sustaining life without a man was utterly pathetic.
She is no ikon or role model.

I think we get desensitized, Anna. I admit to swearing ... not a lot, but some, and, like you Aubrey, most of the time don't even notice it coming from other people. RG, it depends on the perception. Being able to have a fulfilling life without a partner might be possible but not desirable to everyone.

I certainly understand how this gutter talk is contageous, when you're surrounded by it and hip hop rap noise is played all over. Sometimes when i'm ultra angered i could vomit out words like this, but i get disgusted with myself for it. What's the point of getting an education, if you talk like a vulgar tramp afterwards!

I think cheap talk,e.g. f-word and co. cheapens a movie as well as the reputation of the person using it. I get angered too at the excessive slang in many French films and French translations of modern foreign films as well. The slang isn't really obscene, but I hate to have to constantly pop open a dictionary of French slang words to understand the movie. I tried with great difficulties to watch Lindsay Lohan's film "Mean Girls" in French, but it's been translated with an excessive amount of French slang that didn't exist 50 years ago. The US original is virtually slang free.

Ought to be ashamed of ourselves, etc. . yes we should be ashamed of the over use of certain words and i say that as some one who has a fair comand of some very choice anglo saxon when i get riled...but i dont really like to hear it as part and parcel of every day conversation... but swearing like every thing else has its fashions..swear words come and go like necklines

Hi Riotgrrl, I have quite a different perspective than you here. There were a number of scenes in the film where references were made to having one's own child, while it was still possible. I agree you can't really waste time looking for Mr. Right, but i share the viewpoint that something would be missing without children.
Strange that career women, who strive for a higher position and more money are never accused of not being independent.

These career women are never accused of not being independent. Do you mean that they ARE accused of being indpendent? Please explain.

Oh.
I just posted a robust defence of the F word (as Aubrey will tell you, I use it regularly) and how it was a cultural thing and I didn't at all feel like a vulgar slut.
But I think my post disappeared . . . . Fuxake.

I suppose if a career women really feels in her heart that her career is number 1 .. well different strokes for different folks. I get defensive quickly when women are knocked for choosing a relationship and hoping for a family life.
Gosh! Don't you know your tongue will turn black, if you keep using all those cuss words! ;D

exactly anna...women make choices and some times dont knowingly make a choice but slip into a life style quite unthought out we need the stay at home mums probably more than we actually NEED carreer women....we may want careeer women but there is no real necessity for them.... and no woman should have to explain/defend or be looked down on for staying at home or for having a career.....some women can manage both very sucessfully...some cannot as you say horses for courses

But I think my post disappeared . . . . Fuxake. I didn't notice you swearing at all, Riot - probably that's me, though. Accent matters a lot, as well. Stephen Fry can get away with saying anything on TV, and at a time when most other people would be bleeped (I've heard him use every swear word going). People with cockney type accents can swear a lot and it sounds ok - I used to go to a shop here (S London) where the bloke hardly got out a sentence without two or three swear words, but you'd never get that in Yorkshire, as swearing sounds a lot more serious and aggressive in a Yorkshire accent.
