Beth - I'm not a big college basketball fan. More of an NBA Houston Rockets fan.
However, I've checked the big dance brackets and I'm picking U of Houston vs. Univ of Texas as the two teams in the finals with U of H winning.
Getting past Kansas will be the tough one for U of Houston but I think they'll handle it.

Here's a link to the CBS Scoreboard. Very useful site. www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/scoreboard/mayhem/20100320?tag=pageRow;pageContainerCommiserations, Clemie. They won. (suspect you know that) Sorry, das. Houston went down in flames to Maryland, but that was predictable. We are playing Wake Forest even as I type. KANSAS LOST to Northern Iowa! 67-69 St Mary's beat freakin' Villa Nova! 75-68 A little justice there, I think. I am feeling a little prickle of concern about Duke right now. It seems to me they are in the midst of a cake walk. Time will tell. later

When Baylor makes it into the Sweet 16 you know it's an unusual year. Kentucky is looking good now that major teams like Kansas and Texas have suffered upsets. KY is fortunate enough to have a good coach again, so, while I'm not positive they'll go all the way, I have hopes. Told you to go with Baylor. If there are a lot of decent teams from your home state - best to choose the one who's really good. Watch Syracuse and Duke. I'd be quite happy to see Ohio State or Xavier win if UK trips. Even Tennessee or Baylor because of ties with those schools. Just not Syracuse or Duke. Use this link to keep up. www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/scoreboard?tag=fastFacts.collegebasketball

A few points.
(1) Although college basketball is a shadow of what it was 20 years ago (for me at least) the tournament remains a great event. How anybody can watch this and be opposed to a college football playoff is beyond me.
(2) Watching the tournament just pisses me off more about the pathetic state of UM basketball. MSU games intensify this feeling.
(3) Related to that, most of the games put an exclamation point on how many talent holes even very good teams have, and yet they also illustrate how far UM is from having a competitive tournament team. In other words it's not like you have to have anything like Kentucky-level talent to make a good tournament run, but we're a long way from having even the relatively modest level of talent you need to be a solid tournament team.

They won again, Clemie. Sorry. Three of my original top 4 picks are still in the running. U of KY Ohio State Baylor It's also been interesting to watch Xavier chug along, though I fear they are out of their league with Kansas St.. We face Cornell Thursday night. I probably won't get to watch any games until then.

Beth - I thought Gillespie got a raw deal from the Univ of Kentucky. He's an excellent coach. However, the guy they have now is performing so it's hard to criticize their coaching decision.

You know, that was just one of those things. Billy Gillespie was probably a good coach. We suffered under him, but part of that had to be because of growing a young team. What it came down to, I think, was that he never seemed able to bond with the players and fans. My brother offered the opinion that he just seemed to be pausing here before moving on - no settling in. Maybe he had a premonition or something. Dunno . . . There's no doubt we're better off now, but I certainly wish him the best. A little lady - former teacher of mine - dearly loved him and his family because they went to her Baptist church. She hated to see him go. Glad to know your reason for snubbing U of KY. Was starting to think it might be personal. Have you ever visited Lexington? What a great college town/horse town it is.

Well, we just got the boot. Tonight's scores: Butler (5) 63 Kansas St (2) 56 West Virginia (2) 73 U of KY (1) 66
My son predicted this earlier today - in part because of the change in venue from NOLA to Syracuse. I was cautiously hopeful, but not really surprised. They gave it a good go - good team - not their year.
