on the beach....about the end of humanity via radiation and how various types meet their end..... Read the book many years ago...totally bogus when viewed with todays knowledge of nuclear war (which would never wipe out all humanity), but still ok. AH

Can't remember what it's called, but a year or so ago I saw a hilarious comedy with a black FBI agent dresses up as a black woman and falls in love with a black girl who has a criminal boyfriend. The character he plays is called 'Big Momma' and I just laughed and laughed and laughed. Big Momma's House

The "Helen of Troy" 2003 is full of turbulent passions..In many many respects it's a disturbing and hurtful film, but it's also very passionate and moving.. Helen is portrayed as a rebellious teenager, who later suffers greatly from the destruction that seems to result from her wish for hope, love and freedom!

We saw the new Star Trek movie a couple of weeks ago. It probably won't end up being one of my favorite movies, but it was darned good entertainment - worth the admission price.

Don't know about best film, but good films were Soldier Blue and La Vie en Rose, the last film I've seen. The cinema emptied in total silence on only when on the street did anybody dare to start speaking.

That's what I like about going to the theater as opposed to seeing films at home - the audience reaction adds so much. Whether it's expressed in silence or an eruption of cheers, it lends a feeling of camaraderie to a shared experience.

Casablanca (I think it's great).
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. (Go Clint, go)
The Mummy (Brendan Fraser version. Go Canada. What a pity they don't play cricket.)

I haven't seen most of the films on your list Lin, but of the ones i've seen the "Wizard of Oz" is clearly my favorite! Your clip has been removed from YTube anna. Hope this one is OK. Gabriel

The film "Joni" about a 17 year old teenager, who after a swimming accident is paralysed, brings tears to my eyes! This film is very inspirational and instructive for life and how to live triumphantly!

Dune: 2012, is in U.S. theaters this weekend. May or may not turn out to be a favorite, but it does look to be entertaining. We won't go until the crowds have thinned down in a week or 2. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

In regard to Dune 2012 -
Though critics were luke warm to this one, the movie-goers seemed happy - 65 million box office over last weekend! Avatar is getting a bigger push but I think this is the one I'll prefer of the two.

Cabaret makes the sleaze so clear that it's easy to understand why Nazism looked such a relief. You are never quite sure either whether the compere harbours sympathies or not. Some say he reluctantly accepts the situation, others that he is a hidden sympathiser.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koyaanisqatsi The film Koyaanisqatsi ( meaning out of balance ) is kind of a satire of "modern living" and makes a good new age music video as well. The film is rather old-1982. It's an interesting concept.

My all time favorite Russian film is "Ballad of a Soldier". A story of a Russian teenage soldier, who after an inadvertent act of bravery asks for a fews days leave to visit his mother, instead of receiving a citation for heroism. Only the Rusico dvd version has an English audio and it's hard to find it at a good price. My YouTube link above has English subtitleswww.amazon.com/Ballad-of-a-Soldier/dp/B0002CU1X2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1270671228&sr=1-2 The entire 9 part YouTube rendition of this movie can be viewed here below in English! A very moving film! 1 ) 2 ) 3 ) 4 ) 5 ) 6 ) 7 ) 8 ) 9 )

I kept getting pleas to see this movie "Kick Ass", but i found the title so repugnant that i resisted until now! Anyone who liked the "Watchmen" would like this film, which belongs to the exact same category!
