Boston's first album was excellent - all hail Tom Scholz.

Fretters, you should try and audition some valve based Amp/CD player combos, I believe they are very warm/smooth. Beth, is your youtube problem sorted now? I can't see any difference between your vids and mine. AH AH gimme some credit I use a Marshall 800. They're sought after I'll have you know! I did have a 60's Plexi but some b'stard nicked it. Quad is my amp of choice for stereo, closely followed by Linn. So you are into *real* hi fi then...what sort of speakers are you using? I'm looking into getting some Naim gear next year (or maybe Exposure), I'd actually like to demo a few makes if I'm gonna lay out the sort of asking prices for proper kit. AH

fret, Boston was a fine band in its prime. There was an under-the-radar stigma that they used too much "hi-tech" in the studio and, therefore, weren't sufficiently authentic (what ever that means). Scholz did, I'm sure, work hard to develop the sound he wanted, but that should not have been a negative thing. I've long thought it was probably a rumor started by the 'purist' nits at Rolling Stone (one, Dave Marsh being a chief suspect), but my collection of early issues got lost in a move, so I can't go back and check without spending hard cash. Journey. I don't know whether "mmmmm" is pro or con. They were often given the brush for being too commercial. Wheel in the Sky is their original group after Perry stepped in, I think - looks like it anyway. Neal Schon may not be the most creative guitarist, but he's certainly not shabby either. So much turmoil around this band over the years. The present day version will be performing 45 min. from us this summer and we aren't looking for tickets. Still, back in the day, they were something special.

This song is filled with so many hooks (both music and lyrics) I'm surprised it isn't still somewhere on the Billboard charts. lol Video removed from UTube.
Modified by Gabriel.

Good choice, beth. Alice had a really good band, Billion Dollar Babies was a fave and this one's for Gordon Brown....

What year was this released? I like it. I like pt. 2 best. There was a little boy stood on a burning log, rubbing his hands with glee. He said, ``Oh Mother England, did you light my smile; or did you light this fire under me? One day I'll be a minstrel in the gallery. And paint you a picture of the queen. And if sometimes I sing to a cynical degree --- it's just the nonsense that it seems.''
So I drift down through the Baker Street valley, in my steep-sided un-reality. And when all is said and all is done --- I couldn't wish for a better one. It's a real-life ripe dead certainty --- that I'm just a Baker Street Muse.

"Minstrel in the Gallery" was released in 1975, it was to all intents and purposes a sort of come-back album! It's a pity Baker Street Muse had to be cut into two parts, but that's Youtube for you. I've been searching for an old Ry Cooder favourite - Homegrown - but I can't find it, so here's some Dickey Betts instead!!!

It's been years since I've heard dickey betts. He's one of the greats. Looking for a good vid of Gallagher doing Bulldog Blues, but in the meantime, this one is fine. With RG, as with a few others, I'd rather find material from his prime. Don't like to remember him older and sick.

Ah, Rory was great. Aside from Blueprint and Live in Europe I loved his Calling Card album. He could really make that tatty Strat sing....
