Argh. that's a hard one, beth. Blackmore was my biggest influence along with Hendrix. Its a pity we can't post MP3s here, you could have told me what you thought of me Are you on Youtube? Not knowingly. I mean its full of "me doing this or that". Where's the dignity in that?

I'm sure you would be very dignified!
Did you see Peter Green last night on BBC4?

Those were both wonderful, fret. Thanks so much. I've long been a Peter Green fan but had not heard him for years. Darn - now I'll have to go out and buy a CD. Will you recommend one? Another I like is Steve Hackett. I have his "A Midsummer Night Dream" CD. Good guitarist. And, cliche I know ;D , but I also love Brian May. There are a number of good amateur guitar players on YT. Do you have a channel set up? Why not give it a try?

Personally speaking, May is certainly an accomplished player, but he relies on too many effects for my liking. FM - I don't know there may be some good compilations available. I prefer the earlier stuff myself, beth. Now what do think of Roy Albrighton? This is part 2, links to the other three parts are below.

Good choice, beth. Is this thread turning into a Blackmore-fest?

Probably not, fret, but that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. What do you think about the Rolling Stone 100 Greatest Guitarists list. www.rollingstone.com/news/story/5937559/the_100_greatest_guitarists_of_all_time/print Just one more because it's very good. I like DP, but am a little partial to the Rainbow years. I think this is from the Japan performances with orchestra backup. It's RB's guitar that's the star, though ya have to wonder about the sloppy camera angles. p.s. Thanks for Lazy. What a tight little band they were. All of them, excellent.

I'd say, beth, that the list is a list of what someone happens to like. I just don't see the Edge at number 24; who ranks way above Ritchie Blackmore (55) and Steve Howe (69) well, its daft. Many guitarists with far more ability than the Edge didn't even make it in there. Rainbow, huh. Did you catch the Rainbow Rising Tour? I made it to Hammersmith Odeon for that one, not baaad! DP (Mk II) were unique. I've heard loads of boots over the years and DP were accomplished improvisers, every night a little different. You can hear a bit of Bach in a lot of their stuff. Nice vid. From DP he took some Arabic influences....

Is there a low voltage alternative? No. They annoyed me then - they annoy me now. Well, not quite as much as Dave Matthews, but . . . still. arrrrrgh no offense ;D
