it's a FACT that pedophiles can't be cured. since rape has nothing to do with sex, but is about control of a woman, it's not likely that rapists can be cured either. those are the fools that the civil commitment is designed for. along with prison being punishment, it is for the protection of society. after they have been punished, in prison, for the crime that they committed, the civil commitment is for the protection of society It is probable that no cure for paedophilia exists but not as yet an absolutely 100% certainty. I've always had difficulty in accepting the notion that rape is about power rather than sex since overwhelmingly it is pretty women who are of child-bearing age that are the victims of rape. But if in fact paedophilia IS an incurable illness surely the correct thing to do is to lock all such offenders away in secure mental hospitals for the rest of their life rather than sending them to prison or - an even more dubious procedure both legally and morally - issuing civil commitment orders? If you are physically ill a hospital is the right place; if you are mentall ill then you belong in a mental hospital. In neither case is prison an appropriate place of confinement nor is civil committment an appropriate method of aftercare. And what is your explanation for men raping other men? Do you equate male on male rape - or female on female rape - with male on female rape and believe that all are motivated by the same factors? Or have you started to doubt that tiresome mantra 'it's not about sex, it's about power?' I realised at the age of 15 that it was not true because (and I say this with no vanity intended) I was considered (by girls as well as boys) to be a good looking boy for my age. In any event if paedophilia is a mental illness then the mental health system is the proper place to treat it and not prison. And if a paedophile has NOT been cured then they should not be released into civil society. If they ARE so released then that can only mean that they HAVE been cured and therefore it is as irrational to issue civil commitment orders against them as it would be to do the same against someone who had broken their leg. If one compares (for example) the treatment of someone who is found guilty of a violent assault and sentenced to a term in prison and then released they are not treated in the same manner as a paedophile subject to a civil commitment order. As always the law is NOT about justice or morality but about control, revenge and repression. for the most part, that is true. it is not always though. i can think of a couple dozen cases recently where the victims have been 70, 80, and even a 94 year old woman. unfortunately, most of these cases ended in murder. obviously, all rapists hate women. some trash like to beat up women. some choose to use sex to hurt them. rape is about degradation and humiliation, and control over the woman. the rapist is abusing her, forcing her to do something that she doesn't want to do. true enough. the thing is, a sex offender is NOT insane. they are very aware, usually, that what they are doing is wrong. i have to say "usually" because i know several women who went to prison for their husband's molesting the kids. as such, the mental illness COULD be cured simply by the individual having the moral fortitude to resist the urges. the reason that pedophiles can't be cured is because they CHOOSE to allow the urges to control them. of course, you already know what i think about ANY male that either gives or takes it in the ass. in that way, i consider male rape to be even more despicable than male-female rape. in a perfect world, EVERY male that rapes another male would be summarily dispatched to the place where the worm dieth not, and the fire quencheth not. if you were applying that correctly, you would be right. the fact is that the law, as always, is SOLELY about the individual making the willful, and conscious decision that they wish to be controlled and repressed
