I think it is inborn ... I don't think it is a choice as to who you fancy ...it's an attraction that your body responds to rather than a conscious choice.

I think it is inborn ... I don't think it is a choice as to who you fancy ...it's an attraction that your body responds to rather than a conscious choice. Hi Gibby! It could be a little of both. The high percent of homosexuals, who were victims of sexual abuse from the opposite sex and the high percent of homosexuals being raised as children by a parent of the opposite sex suggests learned behavior or some form of post birth imprintation.
Also the curious phenomenon of females developing into lesbians later in life with no prior history of homosexuality suggest that at least in these cases it's not determined at birth. www.cleo.com.au/more-women-switch-sexualities-in-their-thirties.htm QUOTE: More women become lesbians in their thirties

Does it matter? As long as it's consenting adults what business is it of anyone else;s what people get up to sexually? Hi Donna! Science asks questions, looks for causes and proposes theories in the absence of solid proof. Whether or not certain individuals think this is neccesary is the question for another thread. Science will continue as science does!

Does it matter? As long as it's consenting adults what business is it of anyone else;s what people get up to sexually? LGBT-GLAAD activists in all MSM make sure that it is everyone's business. For instance, they have something called the "gay inclusion" clause, whereby every TV sitcom, drama, or theater movie, et al that comes out of Los Angeles must have or include openly ("openly" being the operative word here)'gay' situations, characters, actors, and other homosexuals involved in production. Only the "indies" are exempt from this clause. Homosexuality is atypical sexual 'behavior.' Period. Peace, OHD

Obviously a lot of films don't lend themselves to having gay characters, but if you mean that every Hollywood production must have a LGBT person involved in the production...well, that shouldn't be hard to achieve. It is the "openly" gay bit that bothers me.

I don't care what people do if it's consenting adults. But i don't support positive discrinination towards anyone any more than I support negativ e discrimination.

It is the "openly" gay bit that bothers me. That's the part that annoys hell out of me too, the "openly" part, as their argument 20 years ago was, "whatever 2 consenting adults do in the privacy of their own bedrooms . . ." (or words to that effect.) I had no problem with that. However, nowadays, they're not only "open" about their sexuality, the majority seem vociferously flamboyant about it, ('in your face,')at least in all the MSM. Peace, OHD

I met someone on holiday and it turns out we shared an acquaintance (a lecturer). I was a little surprised when my holiday companion described him as "openly gay" because he certainly wasn't flamboyant about it or in any way camp; he didn't advertise his homosexuality but he didn't try to cover it up either; I only found out because he invited a group of us to his house and introduced us to his partner. No doubt the partner went with him to social events and
If that is all that is meant by "open" why say it at all? After all, if someone declares themselves homosexual on an application form, but doesn't want the whole world to know, isn't he (or she) being discriminated against if judged insufficiently "open"?

I am not so sure; as someone who attended a single-sex private school there was a certain amount of same-sex activity that in my opinion simply related to the availability (or rather lack of it) of female company.
I think this is also a problem with prisons, monasteries and similar types of institutions and is one reason why I have always supported co-educational facilities over single-sex establishments.
Sure - but by the same token,Old Hippy Dude is free to feel offended by it. No-one likes to be told how they should feel about things, and sometimes people can get quite confronational in defence of their position. I have every respect for a homosexual who is open about his or her sexual orientation, butI can also see how those who insist on displaying it in a challenging way may be alientating those it aims to win over. It shouldn't be a battle. Add - Oh bother Gibby's quote got lost. One day I'll get to grips with this new layout - will it happen before they change it again?
I can vividly recall being relentlessly propositioned by gay men in Earls Court during the 1970s and early 1980s. It was a thoroughly uncomfortable experience and on one occasion I had to fight one of them off.
exactly and I'm not saying that OHD shouldn't feel offended by it .... if he does that;s up to him , but don't try and get other people to change because you feel offended by something they are doing which is legal and they are entitled to do , is what I am saying.

Perhaps in that case you can understand how distressing it is - no matter WHAT gender you may be - to have to suffer this kind of behhaviour.
For some reason gays appear to get a free pass when it comes to behaviour that would quite rightly be deemed unacceptable if carried out in a heterosexual context
