What Would You Do?
While driving to work - a bit late, and a touch faster than the speed limit - you reach down to adjust your stereo, when all of a sudden your car hits something solid. You spin to a stop, but not before several more cars have run into you and each other in an attempt to avoid the accident.
As you look up and out of your car, you can see that you hit a person, and you are sure that they are dead. You shakily get out of your car, and look around at the damage that has been caused. Several cars have been badly smashed up, but more importantly you have killed someone with your careless driving.
Just then a distraught woman comes up to you, tears running down her face. You ask her what is wrong and she explains that she just ran over someone. You ask her where this person is, and she points towards the person that you ran over! You know whoever accepts the blame is likely to be placed in jail for a very long time. If you let the woman take the blame, there's a very good chance you will get away with it all.
What would you do? Why?

I would have to fess up.......I could kid myself and say that I would let the woman take the blame.......but it is something that would eat and eat at me.
Also.....if someone else believed that they did it....there might be more that went on than I was aware of.....since I obviously wasn't paying attention anyway.

Your doctor tells you that you're going to be fine. But then you notice a figure coming up behind him.

Always be honest and let the investigation decide the facts. I hope I'd have the guts to own up. mm...well, that's the thing isn't it. You could save your life, and reason that the woman was old and already had hers, and doesn't have kids still growing etc.. You could even start actually believing all you'd hit was the dead body of the person the old lady had killed. But mostly, would you lie to save your life? Would you condemn someone else, to do so? I like to think I'm more moral than most, more decent. Don't know that I actually am, but it's what I want to be at least. Yet...I can't say I know I'd own up in this situation. I probably would start thinking how the old lady had already lived, and maybe she did run the guy over before I got there? And time would go by and I'd convince myself. Probably. You want honest? Probably would. *shrug* And you know what, maybe everyone that says they wouldnt would too, and they just dont want to admit it. You see it's easy to be noble when you're not really confronted by such a situation. But if it happened, and you knew you'd be put in a cage with rapists for the rest of your life....really, you wouldnt just shut up and go home?

It is difficult to say what I'd do, but I might not confess to driving too fast or adjusting my stereo. I hit someone in the road; who is to say I could have avoided it?

What Would You Do...?
Every Monday, a new dilemma to sort out -
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// You're in Florida...In Miami, to be exact. There is great chaos going on around you, caused by a hurricane and severe floods. There are huge masses of water all over you. You are a CNN photographer and you are in the middle of this great disaster. The situation is nearly hopeless. You're trying to shoot very impressive photos. There are houses and people floating around you, disappearing into the water. Nature is showing all its destructive power and is ripping everything away with it. Suddenly you see a man in the water, he is fighting for his life, trying not to be taken away by the masses of water and mud. You move closer. Somehow the man looks familiar. Suddenly you know who it is -- it's Barack Obama! At the same time you notice that the raging waters are about to take him away, forever. You have two options. You can save him or you can take the best photo of your life. So you can save the life of Barack Obama, or you can shoot a Pulitzer prize winning photo, a unique photo displaying the death of one of the world's most powerful men. And here's the question (please give an honest answer): Would you select color film, or rather go with the simplicity of classic black and white? Okay that's not really the question! I'm just joking! Here's the real question: This is pretty standard, but I've been in this type of situation and would like to know how you would have handled it. You find out your best friend's partner is cheating on, let's say 'him'. He loves her and believes they will spend the rest of their lives together and this happens. His girlfriend knows that you know and contacts you and begs for your silence, saying it was because of medicine she took too much of that this happened. She cries that their relationship means everything to her and this would never happen again and it would just needlessly crush him if he were to be told. Like a perfect patsy you keep her secret. It eats at you. Every time you see your friend, you have to live with not having given him a fair heads up. Finally, you're drinking at the bar one night and drink just enough to start complaining of how this makes you feel to the guy next to you. He says, "Wait, are we talking about Debbie?" "Oh", he says, "she'd screw the paperboy for a tip. She's done half the guys in this bar!" You feel a perfect fool now and surely NOW you should tell him. But it's a year later and they have now broken up ( because of her guilt and lack of commitment, as you can imagine. She drove him away, and he loved her, he is heartbroken.) You feel you did wrong not telling him right away, but surely you should tell him now? Ah but if you do, he may just not be able to forgive you, and this could cost him his best friend, on top of already having lost his girl. You clam up tight, and decide it's too late to say something, so you should never say anything. Did you do the right thing? Should you have told him in the first place? Should you have told him after they broke up? What would you do?

They are already not together. Let it go. There has surely been enough pain in the relationship without adding to it.
Just maybe keep an eye out and make sure she doesn't worm her way back into his life!!

There is no reason for a friend to enter into the freys of a personal relationship. It's more important you be availible to assist in picking up the pieces.

I would say nothing and still say nothing - no guilt. Why? Wouldn't you expect your friend to watch your back, to tell you?

I have a very good friend that has been married for 30 years.........I detest her husband........leeches and pond scum are higher up on my scale of likability than him.............
She often makes jokes or says derogatory things about him.......and while I agree and laugh along with her........I know she won't leave him. I would rather continue to be her friend and be there for her no matter what then interfere in her relationship with him. There is no way to put her in the position of having to choose between her friendship with me......and her husband.

What Would You Do...?
Every Monday, a new dilemma to sort out - //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
The Overcrowded Lifeboat In 1842, a ship struck an iceberg and more than 30 survivors were crowded into a lifeboat intended to hold 7. As a storm threatened, it became obvious that the lifeboat would have to be lightened if anyone were to survive. The captain reasoned that the right thing to do in this situation was to force some individuals to go over the side and drown. Such an action, he reasoned, was not unjust to those thrown overboard, for they would have drowned anyway. If he did nothing, however, he would be responsible for the deaths of those whom he could have saved. Some people opposed the captain's decision. They claimed that if nothing were done and everyone died as a result, no one would be responsible for these deaths. On the other hand, if the captain attempted to save some, he could do so only by killing others and their deaths would be his responsibility; this would be worse than doing nothing and letting all die. The captain rejected this reasoning. Since the only possibility for rescue required great efforts of rowing, the captain decided that the weakest would have to be sacrificed. In this situation it would be absurd, he thought, to decide by drawing lots who should be thrown overboard. As it turned out, after days of hard rowing, the survivors were rescued and the captain was tried for his action. If you were the captain, knowing you'd be tried for murder, would you have saved some of the passengers, as he did? If you had been on the jury, how would you have decided?

Well....I realize I would probably feel differently if it was one of my loved ones that got chunked over the side......but I would be against even bringing charges against the Captain. So absolutely not guilty.
Sometimes the choices in severe situations aren't pretty but they have to be made.

The captain should have sacrificed himelf along with the passengers; the last man overboard.
